Most popular of the new Short Magnums?
Anybody have any info or know where to get sales figures regarding the new Win Short Magnums, specifically the .270,7mm, and 300 WSM. Of the three, I'm looking for the sales leader and the one that can be expected to have the longest life of the three if things take a downturn. If no figures available I would still like to hear any consensus which anyone has noted among friends etcabout which seems to be the most popular.
Looking at the Win 1885 and its only available in those calibers . Been waiting forever for browning to reissue the same gun and in more standard calibers but may just take a chance on a winchester version in a WSM caliber. Thanks for any info. |

Try some financial statements of some of the more popular ammo and gun manufactures. Most are not puplic companies, but sometimes "investers" can have visibility.

Holy cow, I just wasted 30 min of my life going thru SEC quarterly results and disclosers from remington. You could get lost in there for months trying to find line results.

RE: Most popular of the new Short Magnums?
From what I've seen around here locally, the .270 is slightly more popular than the .300 WSM. And the Remintgon SAUM haven't really caught on . . . .

Where I live its about a toss-up between the 300 and 270 WSM'S The 300 has a bit of the edge. This from talking to the local gun shops. My pick if I needed a Magnum rifle would be the 270 WSM hand down. The 7mm WSM is not selling worth beans around here.

300 WSM and then 270 WSM seem to be the leaders.

Sales figures for either ammo or reloading dies might be the easiest way to find the answer.
Based only on what I've seen locally its the 300WSM followed closely by the 270WSM. I know of no one who has bought or even shot a 7mm WSM. |
RE: Most popular of the new Short Magnums?
I am partial to the .30 calibers so I'd have to say the .300 WSM then the 7mm WSM.
Ofcourse 2 of the best TRUE short magnums are the 6.5 Remington Magnum and the .350 Remington Magnum |
RE: Most popular of the new Short Magnums?
Where I live the 300wsm is by far the most popular.

RE: Most popular of the new Short Magnums?
In my neck of the woods, it's the 270Wsm. After that, it's a toss-up between the 300WSM and the 7mm. There's a surprise since the three best selling calibers here are 270win, 300 win mag, and 7mm mag.

If I were to buy one I would choose the .270 WSM, that would make a great long range deer gun. My brother in law owns a .300 WSM and he loves it.

RE: Most popular of the new Short Magnums?
Of all the short mags out, the 270 WSM is the only one that really interested me. It's the only one that's really unique in what it can do. The 300's and the 7's are don't really offer anything to me that will better their older forefathers. The guns aren't really that lighter, a short action 700 bdl stainless is roughly only a 1/4 pound lighter than the standard mag bdl., less than that actually, a whopping 4 ounces maybe. Now the 270 WSM, with the only rival being the 270 Weatherby, which isn't the most popular out there, that's a new twist on a great bullet size. Something different.

RE: Most popular of the new Short Magnums?
I never really caught on the the short mag Hype untill a tried a .270WSM, I was extremely impressed. Wouldn't be a bit surprised If one ends up in my cabinet!
|
RE: Most popular of the new Short Magnums?
If I were to buy one tomorrow it would be a 270WSM
|
RE: Most popular of the new Short Magnums?
I agree, the .270WSM is the best option in my mind. It also shows the most improvement over the older/taller rounds. Thats the one I would go with.

RE: Most popular of the new Short Magnums?
Industry wise the 300WSM is the sales leader. But you see the 270WSM taking ALOT of sales east of the Mississippi. I agree with the notion that the 7WSM is dead. Rems 7 has become the magnum of choice the world over within the last 20+ years. But I think you have to realize some market FACTS with regards too calibers and sales. The 30caliber is North America's BABY! Has been for ALONG time and that isn't likely to change anytime soon. With regards too the 270WSM, I think its perceived as more of a "deer" caliber and as a result will see strong continued sales. But in Europe the 7mm is as engrained too them as the 30 is here stateside. Thats why you saw Beretta add the 7WSM too the Sako for 05. They wont sell more than a few hundred at best in the America's. But if the WSMs catch on in Europe (which remains to be seen) you can bet the 7 will be the lead dog.
As for the 325, it will have its niche and that niche will typically entail local hunters taking elk/moose sized game while seeking a smaller, more compact rig with such power. RA ps To behonest though I can't imagine a 300WSM with 180 Triple Shocks not doing ANYTHING that a 130 270WSM or a 225 325 WSM doing. |
