sighting in new scope
 

hey everybody, i just bought a Sightron 3-12x 42mm scope for my .270 remington 700ADL, i had it boresighted last night after buying it. i took it out today to sight it in. i started at 25 yards, my first shot was about 6 inches to the right, i adjusted and got it hitting dead on at 25 yards. my next shot was at a distance of a little over 100 yards, i hit about a foot to the right. am i doing anything wrong? what should i do now? this is my first real scope, i used this rifle with iron sights for a year but i have 150 acres of farm land and have gotten into varmint hunting so i wanted some accuracy. what should i do now?

Double check all mounting screws for the bases, and the scope rings. Be sure they're tight, but don't overdue it - you don't want to strip one. As to the boresighting - by who?

Anyway, if all is tight, and seems ok, I'd head back out and re-check zero at 25yds.
If ok at 25yd., then try a shot or two at 50yds. Zero it at 50yds., then proceed to
sight in at 100yds.
If the windage is way off, you might try (if possible - depends on bases/mounting hardware) adjusting for it some by moving the rear ring in it's base. I'd be sure to zero at 50yds before going on out to 100.

Deer Hunt in Wisconsin. Presently have a lugar 3006. Have been using Federeal Trophy bonded 165. Guy told me that a Winester silver tip 168 was cheaper anf better. Help

Import,
First,bore sighting is going to put it on paper,but now you have to fine
tune the scope.The first thing I do after installing the rings, is check
them to be perfectly aligned with a ring aligner from Brownells.
If not they will tweak the scope and give you a fit when trying to
zero in the rifle. They are not a perfect machined pair.You might have to hone one of the rings.
Also, tighten all screws evenly and on a cross pattern.

Second, I always buy aleast 4 boxes of different brands of ammo and weights
to see which one the rifle likes best from a bench rest, starting from 25,
50 and 100yds.

i'm shooting remmington 150 grain core lokt rounds now... should i switch? i will be using the rifle for varmints at ranges up to 300 yards and also for deer... should i use 150's or 130's?

In Fla. not every body,but the deer hunters I know shoot 130grNP.
On yotes and similar varmits I would shoot 115gr core-lokt-psp.
