SJ, I have tried Wholesale Sports, local gun shops, etc. No left 7mm other than Tikka base model, which does not fit me worth a hoot. In fact one shop has had one order since last nov. from Browning. I also tried Browning Canada....no can do in 7MM. 300 Win not a problem! Again my real problem is being left, they only make so many and shops stock one in each Caliber/maybe 2. Some shops say, if you can believe this that the 7mm isn't a real desired caliber...common on! Anyways, it has been tough and what I have found is what I posted. The 280 is a private deal. Probably the best thing is to stick with 270 till I can find a 7mm that works.

SJ, with the new gun crap in Canada what is the process if I find one in a different Province, like Alberta? Is it a red taped nightmare? With this PAL how would they know who I am or if I am actually buying it. You know the Pic ID and all. Do you or any other canucks know. I have heard some stuff, but it could be the local shops don't want to lose any biz. They say they can't transfer stock between different shops. (Wholesale of course can do in store transfers from one local to another)

I looked at the Recoil table and the 300 win is a bit of jump but not much more than a 7mm, which I have shot plenty (with no problems). So I should be ok with the 300 win. However the 3006 is still heavy in my mind, it is lacking the speed that the 7MM or 300 will produce but it should be pretty decent. NO?

Still lost and p'd at being a south paw right now!!!!

I love the 280 Rem. as a cartridge and feel that it's one of the best rounds there is, but since you already own a 270 Win. I'd pass on buying it. It's so close to what you alredy have.

skeeter 7mm...

i have owned (2) rem 7600's in 280rem. i for a time all i talked about on the this forum was get a 280rem one of the best rounds out there.
a very close buddy of mine took a elk at 300yds. using TBBC's and he dropped after a few steps. he has it on video. as for your buddies not being able to find a ample amount and types of ammo for it. just do what i do " buy in bulk " both of mine shot core-lokt's and nosler partition's.
as for the browning in 30-06sprg. i own one now and i never had a rifle get these groups out of a gun before. the 30-06sprg would be a better choice for where you hunt and get the same distance out of 280rem and the 30-06sprg ballistics are minimal.
it comes down to practice, practice, preactice !!!!!!!!
so both are excellent rounds. i don't reload either and there are seceral good bullets and sizes that winchester and federal make for the 280rem up to 160gr's.

Skeeter7mm-As long as you are buying in canada there is no problem buying from another province. It is all done by phone and all you do is give your pal number and the gun is registered to you buy the store selling it.I have done this several times and it is quite easy.As far as the 7mm mag Most of my friends use it as their only hunting cartridge and are very happy with it.They have taken everything from deer to pronghorn to moose and elk and it does a great job.I myself use the 7mmstw for my deer ,pronghorn and bighorn hunting which is really a 7mm mag but about 200 to 300fps faster.

Guys the stars lined up today. I got a call from a shop and I have a LH 7MM Mag. I got exactly what I wanted. Thanks to your posts and suggestions. I really don't know that a perfect caliber will exist across the board, but to me the 7 is all I wanted or need!!
