RE: Coppermelt Extreme
I thought about buying it at one time, but it doesn't make sense for me right now since I've got a good quantity of solvents on my shelf already. I might try some when I start running low.
|
RE: Coppermelt Extreme
I am thinking it would work ok ..not sure If I like the application method on it but it would seem to be safer then some of the more extreme solvents out there. I am going to go for a bottle when I pick up my new rifle in a few months and break it in with this stuff to try it out.

RE: Coppermelt Extreme
I bought a bottle of Coppermelt from Brownells 2 weeks ago I have used it on 3 rifles 2 were "clean" I thought 1 was new. The rifles that I thought were clean, I cleaned with the Coppermelt and there was alot of fouling left in the barrels so it is my new favorite Before all I used was Shooters Choice, but the Coppermelt seems to work alot better. I hope this helps chma

RE: Coppermelt Extreme
CHMA how fast does it work?
|
RE: Coppermelt Extreme
I don't believe you will like it. It has a bit of ammonia like CR10 and Sweets. You mentioned once that you were worried about etching with those products.
|
RE: Coppermelt Extreme
www.coppermelt.com They mention something about the ammonia in the product but go on and say that it can't harm your barrel. WHy would they open themselves upto something like that.?
|
RE: Coppermelt Extreme
Look at CR10, one statement, don't leave in the barrel, and next, its harmless to steel.
|
RE: Coppermelt Extreme
Not sure I would leave it in the bore for any extended time but the same would hold true for Montana Extreme or some others. CR10 and Sweets are just harsh smelling and 10 minutes max.
|
RE: Coppermelt Extreme
Have used coppermelt for a year now and it works great, also have the 50bmg montana and it too works well. The reason for not leaving this stuff (sweets, cr10 etc.) in your barrel is the water base, it will rust your barrel. Montana said the 50 bmg has no water base and will not rust barrel even if left over night. Have not got a reply from the guys at copper melt yet. Be careful ordering direct, never got but half the brush's i ordered.
|
RE: Coppermelt Extreme
Sweets water based? Hard to believe. I thought it was petrolium based.
|
RE: Coppermelt Extreme
The CEO of Montana extreme told me the same thing that the harsh ones had water in their solution. I don't know who to believe anymore when it comes to these chemicals. I'll give this stuff a try after all its shipped in a SS bottle..I guess if it were real corrosive it would eat thru the bottle.:D
|
RE: Coppermelt Extreme
And montana is supposed to be the harshest cleaner on the market. They may have something there.
Maybe the etching myth is just that. A myth from surfase rust, which I have experienced. |
RE: Coppermelt Extreme
i have never used CR-10 before this will be my first time is the stuff any good? the guy at the sport store said it was the best.
|
RE: Coppermelt Extreme
CR10 will eat copper out. Thats for sure. Just follow the directions closely. And put lots of oil in when you got all the oil out.
|
RE: Coppermelt Extreme
I have left montana extreme in my bore overnite on both CM and SS barrels and never had a problem with it at all. I wouldn't leave CR10 in any barrel ever again after it melted my Dewey Cleaning Rod. YOu have to be crazy.

RE: Coppermelt Extreme
I did a very intresting test last night. I took 4 individual cups of water and put drops from a droper of copper melt, sweets, cr10, montana 50bmg. If they are water base they will mix, if not the will stay seperate like oil in water. simple test to do for your self.
The thing to do with all these products is find the one that cleans the best the way you clean and "allways" clean the resdue and "oil" the barrel last. If your cleaning and shooting as in a breakin, oil the barrel last. Another test you guys can can try that i do. Finds some old bullets you dont use. Put them out on the bench and put a drop on the bullet of your cleaner and leave over night. On the nest day wipe clean and see if the bullet gets etched were the clean was. With all the testing we have done the coppermelt wins hands down. I know it is very costly. Second would be the 50bmg. |
RE: Coppermelt Extreme
montana has the new 50bmg copper remover. Thats the key work. copper melt, sweets,cr10 and 50bmg are copper removers not cleaners. All copper removers are alot stronger than regular cleans. For example montana extreme cleaner is not the same as their 50bmg.

RE: Coppermelt Extreme
Ok, who has done comparison of the montana XTreme, and copper cream, and 50BMG. With Sweets, CR10 and now this coppermelt?
Goodness, you guys have talked me into trying out another cleaner to put on the pile. |
RE: Coppermelt Extreme
So many cleaners so little time
|
RE: Coppermelt Extreme
So old have you ever used Sweets? Would you say the copper creme would clean out the copper faster than Sweets? It does take me quite some time to get out all the copper with it.
|
RE: Coppermelt Extreme
I have used Sweets and I dislike it as much as CR10 there can't be a lot of difference. Have only used the regular Montana extreme not the 50bmg or the creme. FOund out that Wipeout is only a copper "INDICATOR" and not a very good cleaner. My Philosophy is if there is that much copper in the bore it has been neglected and never cleaned right or the bore is toooooooooooooo rough. In that case I save a lot of work by using a Foul out 111. I am going to rent mine to someone so they can clean their gun thoroughly before working up loads for this coming Elk Season.

RE: Coppermelt Extreme
once you cleaned the bore with cr10 couldnt you use say a hoppes powder cleaner though it after you ran a few dry patches through the bore to wipe up the remaining cr10. and once you use the hoppes then oil the bore?
|
RE: Coppermelt Extreme
The 2 rifles I cleaned took about 5 minutes each. The company recommends that you use a cotton patch wrapped around A nylon brush that is small enough to fall through the bore of the gun after doing that I passed the patch back and forth through the bore maybe 7-8 times then ran another patch thruogh with coppermelt on it then 2 dry patches that is it. as far as amounia the company claims there is not any they say they use enzymes. As far as smell I ckleaned my guns in my kitchen and did not notice any offensive odor the only way I could smell it was hold it close to my nose. I dont recommend doing that I hope this helps I plan to use this exclusively. chma

RE: Coppermelt Extreme
Mybigred, alot of shooters use gumout carb cleaner to get out all the water and residual ammonia. Then promply with some oil. Alot of it too. Then several patches to get out the excess.

I am in contact with the original owner/Inventor of coppermelt. He has for some reason or other been running undercover.
If anyone has an interest in using coppermelt, I'm sure we can get some bottles out to you. Apparently, the product works like a charm,as i have been told, but production has suffered and supply is almost non existant. I do not know the formula, nor want to, so please be aware of this. i am only a go between for the time being. pm me, and I will see what I can do for you. Thanks |
