Default cartridge costs

I am interested in getting a new rifle and costs of ammo is a factor in desiding which gun to get. Can i get a list of the approximate costs of as many different cartridges as you can give me? I am thinking either a 22-250, .308, .300 mag, or 7mm. But still give me as many different prices as you can, thanks.

if you visit some places such as cabelas.com or midwayusa.com, etc you can aquire a good idea of what ammunition costs... there are a lot of manufacturers, flavors, grades, etc which will signifantly sway costs for a given cartridge...

308Win. will be the least expensive of those you listed. It's the most popular cartridge
of those noted, and simple economics dictates that the more popular cartridges will generally cost less (22LR, 223Rem., 243Win., 30-30, 308Win., 270Win., 30-06 .....).
The more popular a cartridge is, the more loadings there will be available from the factories also.

If you want to check out relative ammo costs then take a look at some of the ammo prices on the following websites:

.308 is the cheapest to shoot in the list. .223 would be much cheaper still to shoot.

The original poster did not specify hunting ammo. Shooting surplus fmj ammo is a great way to hone one's shooting skills.

Depending on the bullet/ammo selected the prices vary, as does availability for OTC ammo. However all things considered equal in bullet styles/brand the prices here are as follows: (lowest to highest)

22-250 and 308 pretty close to the same price

22-250 is cheaper by a few bucks here but less variety and less applicable uses - the 308 is much better suited round from varmits to biggame)

270 and 3006 -Equal

availabilty is equal, larger selection of ammo and grain sizes goes to 3006)

7mm and 300 win pretty close to the same price

availability is equal, equal ammo selection and uses(except big bear - Griz, Browns, etc where 200 grain is desired -300 win would get this nod). Here the 7mm mag is few bucks less a box than the comparable 300 win
