i like the 30-06 caliber, i think it is one of the best, as far as which one of the two is the best i cant treally say, i own a winchester model 70 and like it alot. the only thing i dont like about your selections, and this is only my OPINION, is the synthetic stocks, i still like the wood stocks myself, good luck in finding your gun, i think you will be happy when you find the right one.

Jedi,
If you come up and go to the range with me, remind me and I will let you shoot my 742, and 7600, and you can make a decision for yourself if you like them.
Mossy why are you lieing to these folks. We both saw your guns only shoot 4MOA accuracy at the range. You told me you couldn't hit the broadside of a barn.

get the rifle that fits YOU best. the first few threads pretty much covered it keep in mind that if you want the weatherby, but have a savage budget, look for a used gun, brand new isnt all its cracked up to be....your best deals through your life are going to be on used rifles. new guns dont allow for much in the way of barganing.

I love the savage accu-trigger. Savage makes great shooting, accurate guns that dont clean out your wallet.

Take the 7600 instead. They also offer the synthetic it the 7600 also, but i prefer the wood version.

JEDI,
IF THERE IS ANYTHING OUT THERE THAT CAN TOP A REMINGTON 700 OUT THERE I HAVE YET TO FIND IT. TRY LOOKING ON GUNSAMERICA, AUCTION ARMS, OR GUN BROKER TO FIND A USED ONE. IT WILL LAST FOREVER AND DO WHATEVER YOU ASK IT TO DO. THERE IS A REASON MOST CUSTOM RIFLE MAKERS USE A REMINGTON 700 ACTION. THE 7400, WHILE A WONDERFUL "SWAMP GUN" IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR A GOOD BOLT ACTION.

mossy33oak,

IN my safe theres a Rem 742 that I bought used about 12yrs ago.
It has a crack in the RING of steel, that REM is always plugging on,
on the face of the bolt. They told me that Rem. has no parts available for the Mod 742,
anymore. They told me that if I would send them $329 and the mod 742
they would replace it with Mod 7600.I figured $329 + $200 I had in the
742 equals $529> I don't think so.
That's what turned me off on Remington's...

Always inspect the Ring on the bolt after firing.

For under 150 id go with the remington, but beyond that i would want the Savage because it is a bolt action and they are more accurate than a semi i hear
