Rem. 870 Pump is a good shotgun for any waterfowl or upland and won't cost an arm and a leg (if just duck hunting look for a used 3", lots of deals and plenty of power). Like said probably a ruger 10/22 is about the standard.

If finances are not the concern, I recommend a Browning 3 1/2" Gold Hunter in Mossy Oak Shadowgrass. Mine shoots anything that I feed it and it does this very well.

For the .22, go with the Ruger 10/22 or Marlin makes a lot of great .22s. I have the Marlin Model 60.

either the 11/87 or the 870 is nice on the upper scale a benelli is nice if you like semi autos but after shooting my brother browning citori i feel a need for a double barrel shotgun. i think he bought his used (very slightly the previous owner had it for a week and the action still had that slightly stiff feeling for the factory) for $1100 out the door. though it did have a tiny poke of a scratch mark.
if you want a 22rifle get a 10/22 that is if you want semiauto. though i think a 22 pistol is more fun
