Reasons for a new rifle?

Hey guys, I have never posted here I have really only posted in deer hunting and politics, anyway, I need a reason to tell the wife I am gonna buy a new rifle. See I have rifles in .50 cal muzzle loader,30-30, 7.62x39, and .308 - shotguns in 12 gauge defense 12 gauge hunting and 20 gauge hunting and handguns in .357 6 inch barreled revolver - .357 single action shooter, 9mm semi auto and .380 semi auto. The wife thinks thats enough but what do smart men with common sense say? I can almost hear you all saying it throughout America right now, "What!? No small caliber rifle like a .22 or .17!?!?" So, I need a reason to tell her, I don't shoot squirell or rabbit and she'll say the handguns and mini-30 are fine for plinking. I used the ammo is cheap for the mini-30 excuse while at a gun show so now I have 2000+ rounds for that. Help! All suggestions serious and comical are appreciated. Also suggestions on a small caliber rifle are welcomed. Thanks.

Well to be truthful I just tell her what I spent and tell her to go ahead and buy what ever she wants up to that amount . May not sound like a great idea but it works both ways , sure cut down on what she was spending . :D:D

Metro, sound like you got it all covered. Maybe you can get her involved in shooting. Tell her you would like to buy something in a light recoil to see if she would like shooting and get her involved in the sport. Say that if you both enjoy the sport you can spend more quality time together. Might work? If she doesn’t like shooting, well you’ll have another rifle. Good Luck......

Well, Congressman King once said that guns are to men like jewelry is to women. Just no such thing as too much!

The 22 hornet is cheap and fun to shoot at mid ranges!

When I want a new gun, I just get it! My wife doesn't know one from the other. Besides, all you have to do is remind her of all the shoes she has in the closet!

everybody needs a hobby yours just happens to be gun collecting and you don't have a 22 yet.tell her the mini makes your shoulder sore from shooting all day, were a 22 won't due to lack of recoil. tell her your buying it for her so she can come shoot with you.

As far as me I just buy what I want it's my hobby,I had it before I got married and am not changing because I'm married.

If you amortize the cost of a new rifle, shotgun, whatever over the life of it, I'm sure it's no more any the cost of a soda a week. $1.25 x 52 x 50 yrs = the cost of a several really nice guns.

"Honey, I love you sooo much. I'm going to buy you a new rifle so you can go shooting & hunting with me. It's lonely on the range/out in the woods without you. And, being as it will be a 22LR, the ammo is cheap, and I'll have money left over to take you out to dinner now & then"
Of course, if she buys it, well, then go pick out your new Ruger 10/22, 77/22, Marlin 39A,
or whatever. :D

That's what I tell my wife.

Her response: "And just exactly how familiar *are* you with the cost of gambling and strippers?"

Metro, First you tell the little lady you need a gun safe to secure your firearms against the increasing breakins near your home. Out of sight, out of mind. This works well for a few years until you tell her you need another safe. Than your on your own.:D

My advice is don't teach her how real shoot well. She's liable to use it on you when you bring a couple more rifles home.I had that problem way back. Now she's gone, the rifles and I have been living happier ever since.

Oh you poor dear soul... :(:(:(:(:(

As Dave would say, "AND TONIGHTS NUMBER ONE REASON TO GIVE THE WIFE FOR BUYING A NEW GUN..............."

Because this is still America and you damn well still want one!!!
RA

ps
I wont bother with the "honey this is what I did before you met me" speech because obviously you did NOT have that in the first place or you wouldnt be asking this question! ;)

Try this: Well honey its a case of ballistics & trajectories and it's a case of " I just don't have that covered ". If B*llsh*t dosn't baffle brains say " Whoops I thought you said OK ".

Good Luck

RE: Reasons for a new rifle?

A buddy of mine kept two safes in his house...and then bought mostly guns that all looked alike...for example, he had two sets of Ruger Vaqueros, one a .45 and one in .32H&R (single six fixed sight), they were never in the same place at once, he kept his wife buffaloed that he only had one set.

He bought a Ruger 22/77 .22mag that looked just like his M77 .30-06, kept them in separate safes, his wife never knew the better. Just don't let them see them all in one place at once.

Me personally, I'd tell her this....I need a rimfire rifle for the economical plinking because recoil-less fire helps hone senses and shooting position and technique. I need my centerfire plinking guns because the recoil of the CF rounds then translates what I've worked on with the rimfire rifle into a more "life" cartridge.

It's kinda like football...you do drills against a sled that doesn't move to work on your technique. Then you move up to contact practice where you learn to use your technique in a more realistic arena. So, when the game comes, you've got solid technique, and you know how to use it in a real hitting environment.

Man Oh Man. It's Visa Versa for me.....but I'm not married, lol. Everytime I come across a pawn shop, or at a gun show, I want to buy another gun! But my boyfriend tells me that I dont need anymore and stop waisting money when I already got a 30.06, .44 mag, .22 rifle, and a 20 gauge shotgun. BUT I GOT TO HAVE MORE! Too bad I wasnt with a guy like you guys, then I could have all the guns I want!

My wife knows all of my guns. That's the problem with only having nine. If I tried to get a new one, she would ask me which one I intend to sell to buy the new one. [:@]

RE: Reasons for a new rifle?

It seems I am a lucky man, my wife dosen't really care if I get a new gun, as long as it dosen't take food off the table. Plus she sees the whole investment side of it (not that I would ever liquidate them), a gun taken care of very rarely loses value.

One possible tip for the guys with wives/girlfriends that are against spending hard earned money on that 204 Ruger Ackley Improved that dosen't really have a purpose, but sure would be cool to shoot......

Try the "it's a helluva deal" logic. Women come in many shapes, sizes, and personalities, but deep down, they are all girls, and girls love deals, sales, clearance items, etc.....

I came across a store that an old timer had cashed in his collection at, (I guess his eyes went bad and he couldn't see them any more, therefore sold them). The store had like 30 rifles, none of which had been shot, but couldn't sell them as new, so they had a used price, a nice used price. I kept talking about what a deal it was, and I'd never seen that gun for that cheap, and I wonder if it is priced wrong, etc, etc.. A week later, I had a new .338.

Another example: I was checking the gun counter at a local store, and spotted a new 7mmRUM, which I had been thinking about, apparently a customer at another towns store special ordered it, with a special order barrell, engraving, etc. and never picked it up. That store was in the "shotgun zone" in MI, and they had no luck selling it, they shipped it to my towns store, and had dropped the price like a rock due to an upcoming inventory check or something. I described the situation to my wife, showed her the comparable prices if I bought it normal.....The next day I had a shiny new 7mmRUM.

Just my $.02

And if she still says no to the new gun, then maybe it wasn't meant to be.;)

RE: Reasons for a new rifle?

I'm lucky I guess. We have a don't ask don't tell policy in our house. I don't permission, and she doesn't tell me no. It helps too that I don't keep them in the house. Until I get a safe, I am not allowed to bring them into the house. My boss has the same problem in his house, so we have a nice big storage room with a deadbolt in the office that we hide all our goodies in. We both just bought new rifles that the wives have no clue about and plan to keep it that way! I'd say get a nice big safe and then sneak the new ones in when she's not home and hide the boxes!

You just walk right up to her, look her right in the eye, stick your chest out, raise your eye brows, and talk in a deep voice and say,,,, and say,,,hang on I have to take out the trash.............. Ok I'm back. after your practice in the mirror ask yourself a question do I really need another gun? No, I don't think you do either

I've got my girlfriend of 2 years convinced that a wedding gun would be better then a wedding ring for me :D. I hate rings, and I always lose stuff so they weren't a winning combination with wearing a ring, so see may just go out and buy that model 70 and engrave the magazine plate.
