Both of the cartridges you are considering, the 25-06 & 270Win., would be excellent choices for pronghorn and mule deer, as well as those whitetails you currently hunt.
Personally, I'd pick the 270Win. I think it's more versatile, with the heavier bullet weights available. And, given past experience, I can't tell the difference in recoil levels between rifles of equal design/weight (117/120gr. vs. 130gr. in 270). I think too, the
270Win. will give you a better/wider selection of ammo to choose from.

ps: keep the 243Win. for varmints

I have to buck everybody else's choice and say stay with the 243. Nothing wrong with the 25-06 or the 270 just don't see where you would need any more than what you have unless you just want to spend the money like i'm about to. If you wanted to move to something bigger like elk or moose i'd go to at least a 30-06. If you can afford it the I would buy all of them.

I saw a 243wssm at wal-mart which I'm going to buy as soon as the babysitter gets back fron taking the kids to school. I have absolutly no NEED for it, just want to have it. I personnaly want one of all of em

Normally I would say the 25-06. However if you are going to keep your 243 then it would make sense to go with the 270 to seperate your options a little more. I condiser the 25-06 to be far superior to the 243 which I consider a good varmit rifle but not really a deer rifle. The 270 though would be a good choice if you are keeping your 243 for the smaller stuff.

I would certainly keep the .243 for whitetail. I would then pick the 270 from your 2 choices, however, for mulies and long antelope shots, the 7mag is something to consider....especially if elk are on your radar screen. With the 7mag, you've got the whole package. Good Luck, Rick.

If you're open to suggestions don't forget to take a look at the .260 Remington as well.

Look here for ballistics comparison
