Thinking of getting one of the H&R Ultras in 30-06, 25-06, or 308 for a deer rifle and was wondering what is everyones opinion of their accuracy. I've heard they can be very good or very bad. I've talked to 3 or 4 people and a couple love em and a couple said they can't get very good groups. Any feed back would be appreciated.

I personally don't have an Ultra, I have a standard barrel .223 and for "out of the box" accuaracy it's plenty good for a hunting rifle. As far a paper punching and getting one hole groups it is not. Most of the guys on Graybeard's have some ideas for accurizing a Handi which seem to work pretty good for most of them. I haven't tried accurizong mine yet.

Alright,
I have the H&R Ultra in .243. By far, this is the most accurate rifle I've shot. Using super cheap 13$ powerpoints I can get 1inch groups (Occasionally sub 1inch) fairly consistantly. Personally I love these rifles and have never had any problem with mine. For the price you really can't go wrong, I'd definately reccomend it.

I have eight of them. These are pretty good shooting guns. The Standard ones go for 200 bucks and all of mine will shoot 1 1/2 inches or better. Sometimes it takes a little tweeking with the forearm to bring them to their best groups. But hey for 200 bucks you can spend a buck or two for rubber O rings and have a real shooter. Its easy to load them fast if you do need another shot but you seldom will. I have 2 223's a 7mm-08 a 280 ,44 Mag, two 45-70s and a 12 Guage. The Ultra's go for from 269-300 dollars. Still need a new NEF 30-30 or send one reciever in for a 30-30 barrel. You can get extra barrels installed for about 80-100 dollars per barrel. They don't make any magnum barrels or guns except the rimfire magnums.
