Guys, thanks for the thoughts. I ended up going with a Winchester model 70 classic sporter lt. The gun was 2 years old, but brand new in the box. I found them at the local guns unlimited for $499. I am a fan of Winchester and really liked how light this gun was (will come in handy when out elk hunting). Now onto the scope(probably a zeiss conquest if the wife doesn't find out:D
