i my ex with 243 it is not a bad gun some ppl say they are.
shot placement goes along way .what did we use before the big mag crase early 1900,s when they most every only had 1 gun gun the good ole 3030 it worked on evry thing in na back then
my only real advise is dont buy a gun that you are going to
be scared to shoot cause of recoil. their alot of nice gun now buy one you like.

Hello Stemhead, i have owned and shot a 243 for 30 years. Nice caliber if you can find Barnes X bullets in factory loads or maybe the Nosler partation. I reload and use the Barnes X bullets and the price is cheap for the work they do. Thats to penetrate deep almost always a pass through !The other and maybe better all around calibers are 257 Roberts a Rem. 260 or a 6.5x55 they're sweet to shoot![&:]

Recommend something a little larger than a 243Win. The 243 will do the job, but is
minimal IMO, and should only be used with premium ammo (nosler partitions, trophy bonded bullets, core-lokt ultras, etc.).
Better, would be to look at 270Win., 7mm-08, 280Rem., 308Win.. I prefer the Ruger
bolt actions, though there is one or two Remingtons I like such as the 700 LSS Mountain
Rifle (I have one of these). Look to a rifle that appeals to you, and feels right - fits you.
