RE: Leupold VXII Scopes
I am getting a new scope in a couple of days. I was going to get the VXII 2-7 x 32. How does this compare to the Nikon Monarch 2-7x32??
I had a Monarch 3-9-x 40 a few years ago and loved it. I have heard that the VXII is just as good but alittle less $$. Since the VXII is a 3 piece tube how does it hold up to the snow and water as far as fogging up and keeping moisture out?? |
RE: Leupold VXII Scopes
Up North, look at it this way. Leupold has 82% light transmission. Nikon has 95%. The two scopes have the same magnification and will both do the job but the Nikon in my opinion is a better scope for less money. Thge Nikon will be brighter the Leupold will not. If you liked your other Monarch this one you will love also. Leupold makes wonderful scopes but you will be better off with a Nikon.
Why work when you can hunt???? Heck why work at all!! |
RE: Leupold VXII Scopes
Where is everyone getting these figures 82% light transmission for Leupold and 95% for Nikon. Just wondering

RE: Leupold VXII Scopes
Leupold CustomerRepresentative at Bass pro Shop is the one who gave me the numbers.
|
RE: Leupold VXII Scopes
Ok, not sure how reliable that source(Bass Pro shops) would be. In reality the number for Leupold sounds kind of low...seems that somewhere I heard in the low 90's for the Vari-XIII.

RE: Leupold VXII Scopes
No, oldelkhunter, not Bass Pro, but a guy that works for the customer service for Leupold. They were having this open house where they had representatives from all the vendors to answer qustion.

RE: Leupold VXII Scopes
old elk hunter the Leupold Vari X III has 93% and the VX-2 has 82% same as Vari X II. I got these from Leupold when i emailed them. The Monarch has 95% and the Buckmasters has 82%.

RE: Leupold VXII Scopes
So here is the question that needs to be answered before shucking out 35% more money for a Vari-X III. Will this two or three peice tube of the VXII handle the abuse like the one piece that the Vari-X III offers. Unfortunely, only time will tell. I am sure that that two or three piece assembly is easier to manufacture than a Vari-X III. Maybe thats the price difference.
Do you guys know the construction of the VariX-II. Sorry to be beating a dead horse here. I am still trying to figure out the price differences. |
RE: Leupold VXII Scopes
Ok maybe I am a little off base but isn't the VariXIII also a 3 piece tube.
|
RE: Leupold VXII Scopes
Shooter...you mean someone from leupold told you that the VXII has the same light gathering power as a Vari-X II. Now that makes no sense why bother multi-coating it then. I tell you what I am going to call Leupold and talk to a non-brain dead person and find out about this.
