Default Question about chokes

Ok I have a 1300 Winchester. I have a ported xtra-full choke. I've looked on the net to see if I can shoot #2 steel out of it, but no success. So, my question is, can I shoot steel through the choke? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Default RE: Question about chokes

I'm going to guess that the answer is probably that it's not a great idea. Most x-tra full turkey chokes are for lead shot only, and are too restrictive to shoot (much) steel shot out of it without damage. Besides, chokes designed for lead shot usually are tighter than their steel shot equivalents (because steel is harder, and generally patterns better with less constriction). Now if it were one of the newer choke tubes rated for the tungsten/Hevi-shot, then I don't think it'd be a problem at all. But the hevi-shot tubes are less constrictive as well and are have of harder steel to take the added hardness of the tungsten based shot.

Why do you want to shoot #2 steel shot out of it in the first place, if I might ask? Are you restricted to non-toxic shot for turkey in Idaho?
