Another vote for Leupold...:D

RE: Nikon vs. Leupold
I have a Leupold VX2 on one rifle and a Nikon Monarch on another. I can't tell a bit of difference between the two. Both do their job well, and both have a lifetime warranty.

RE: Nikon vs. Leupold
This year in june I bought for $600 a brand new Leupold VX-III 4.5x15x50mm with the 30mm tube and B&C reticle. And I own a Leupold varix-II, 4x12x40mm bought new in 1991. Also I have owned and sold a Leupold varix-III 4.5x14x50mm bought new in 1994, and a late 1970 model Leupold 6x40mm. There is a big difference in coatings and clarity between all of them. In choosing my scope this year I had a friend/manager at sportmans warehouse let me compare a Leupold VX-III 3.5x10x50mm $500. Bushnell Elite 4200 2.5x10x 50mm $400. Swarovski 4-12x50mm $850. Nikon Monarch Gold 2.5x10x50mm with a 30mm tube $550. We took them out of the store with a hour and a half of light left and were looking at the hillsides to the east of Idaho Falls until it was dark. To be honest my friend (Adam) and I couldn't tell a difference between the four scopes. All were excellent in light gathering and clairty. Before our test Adam was hopeing to sell me on the Nikon, but he told me the Swarovski would be the best at our test. Well we were both surprised at how well all of them did. I of course bought a leupold, diferent model than we tested. but I think if you choose a top of a line scope from a quality scope manufacture you can't go wrong. I also put a sun shade on my new scope. And no the FOV does not change with or without the sunshade. I'm not sure but I think my scope with the 30mm tube is a one piece? If I'm wrong please correct me, if it's not a one piece, "oh well". I am not worried because of the cusomer service, warranty, and the overall quality is top notch. Just my 2cents.

RE: Nikon vs. Leupold
I'm partial to Nikon as well. The only question I have about Nikon is about the warranty.
Leopold has proven time and time again that they stand behind thier lifetime warranty 100%. I've read stories where people have had trouble with a 20+ yr old Leopold and was able to send it back and either have it fixed or replaced no questions asked. I've always wondered if Nikon will offer the same top notch service as Leopold in this regard. Has anyone had any experience with this? |
RE: Nikon vs. Leupold
ORIGINAL: SM_Johnson Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't the old VariX scopes a 1-peice tube? |
RE: Nikon vs. Leupold
Speyrjb, last Sep I bought a Nikon Monarch 2x7 and I liked it except that the power ring was ridiculoulsy tight. I sent it back and have yet to hear from them.

RE: Nikon vs. Leupold
I have five nikons and I haven't had a problem with any of them. That tight power ring is common among them all.
