ORIGINAL: Niko well..that's my question..does the .300mag "work" for elk's?? weight bullets ( 150gr.). For elk, stick with the heavier bullet weights such as 180gr., and up. Use the better bullets too, like the Nosler partition, Trophy Bonded, or the Remington Core-Lokt Ultras. |

Let me put it to you this way. I loaded my .300 with 165 SSt's. at 400 meters, it would drill holes thru 1/4 thick steel turkey targets.

No, absolutely not. Any of the .300 magnums is not going to be enough gun for elk. I found this out one day while at the local shooting range. I was shooting my .300 Wby Sako and the guy shooting next to me told me I'd need a much more powerful cartridge if I expected to kill an elk. Surely a fellow shooter wouldn't lead me astray. Or would he? ;)

yes, the 300 mags are great elk calibers.
