3006- more available loads, bullets, molds, plenty of power, ammo in every store on earth, etc.

I personally would have to choose .270. That caliber has and extremely flat trajectory, sure the 7mm would be flatter but where I hunt the longest shot I have ever had the oportunity to take was between 175 and 200 yards. For whitetail 7mm is a little much, a well placed shot w/ a 22lr will put a deer down (They used to allow you to hunt with a .22 in Wisconsin). For me, being an unexperienced shooter, I shoot guns with less kick better, the large calibers will make me flinch.

All the more reason for the 7mm08!

I love my .270 but then again it is my first rifle and I'm very comfortable with it. Whatever your comfortable with.

.308 is a nice round and would do the job with plenty of ammo choices.

Of those listed the 7mm-08 is my pick for Southeastern whitetails. Mild recoil yet a relatively flat shooting round and hot death on deer. A 140 grain bullet from a 7mm-08 is close to perfect for southern whitetails. An excellent caliber whose popularity is growing in leaps and bounds mostly because of dads who originally buy it for their kids then end up using it as much or more than their kids.

All would work fine but if I had to pick I go for the 308 win!
