Default Sako 308 Warbird Owners? RedAllison need your help?

Looking for some information.

How has the Sako TRG-S held up to the 308 Lazzeroni Warbird for accuracy and structural condition? From the net I've read posts about problems with the stock spliting at the action bolts, inconsistent accuracy? Is this true? Also read that glass bedding and an additional lug to handle recoil is required. Because the gun is no longer manufactured by Sako and not listed by Lazzeroni I'm wondering if its worth it. I'm also trying to determine if it came with a stainless barrel or blued?

I came across a hard to pass up deal. Please let me know.

I can't speak for the warbird but a friend has had problems with the stock cracking on his trg-s in 30-378.Recoil is also much harsher than with my 300ultramag remington 700's.

Thanks Stubblejumper, I remember you mentioning that earlier this year, was wondering if the cause was isolated to a particular year of production. I know RedAllison has had his for a very long time. See if he gets a chance to answer.

340 if you get the chance to get the rifle you better jump on it. ALOT of folks are looking for them now that they arent built anymore and Lazz' own rifles are up too $5899. I hear alot of this "stock cracking" stuff and I can believe it, its a possibilty with ANYTHING that large and powerful. But I think alot of it is internet hype also. Like I told you before, I work with my brother and his shops are Lazzeroni dealers and we have sold quite a few of them over the last few years and several in our group are still shooting them. And we have not had 1 single incidence of such in ANY of the Sako-Warbird/Firebird guns and none in the Savage Patriot as well.

I have had mine since 99 and am on my 8th box of ammo. About a month ago I completely tore my rifle down (seperated the action/barel from the stock) and cleaned it up in preparation for the season. I checked everything over really good and everything is still as new. The gun shoots very well and is the closest thing to the proverbial "death ray deer rifle" as is available over the counter IMO. I shot the 130X bullets from it until the 150 Lazerhead was released lastyear. The 150s print cloverleaf groups at 100yds and 3.5" groups @ 400yds. In my gun (TRG-S with a 6x24x50PVS Swarovski atop it) the 150s are 2.5" high @ 100yds and only 3.5" low at 400yds. I dont know how to make quarter mile shots any easier than that!

The only downside that I personally can place on them is the $5 a shell cost to fire them. Lazz' ammo is EXPENSIVE. But its matchgrade quality, waterproof, NP3 plated and just simply flawless stuff. I still have all my reloading stuff and have every piece of brass I ever fired, but I will keep shooting John's stuff as long as its available. And whats not to like about a Sako? I love the feel of mine. Its big and can handle the 'bird but its not heavy or ill-fitting. They have one of the smoothest actions in the world and the trigger is great. In fact, the only thing in our racks smoother than the Sakos are the Sauer 202's. Now those feel like glass!!! But Beretta raised the wholesale price on 202s by 84% in one failed swoop, overnight they effectively doubled the price of those rifles.

I have NEVER killed anything too dead,
RA
