RE: Need some advice on 243 bullet
I hand load and the only thing I will shoot anymore is the Barnes X bullets in 85 gr . I know some people say they have problems with accuracy and blame the bullet but I'm getting some good groups with Barnes new Triple-shock bullets .

RE: Need some advice on 243 bullet
I like the nosler partions and barnes X bullets. if you use these, you can actually use 80-90 grain bullets and be more effective than cheapo 100gr, plus you get a flater trajectory. There are some other premium bullets out there that are good also.

How do the Barnes X bullets perform when they hit bone? My wife is a pretty good marksman, but nobody can make the perfect shot every time

RE: Need some advice on 243 bullet
I use the winchester 100gr power-point for deer. The core-loks are good bullets, but the green & yellow cartrides never seem to have the powder like the winchester. When your shooting at 100 yards at the range you look like a hero, but at 200 fails terribly. I have found this in another caliber also. HH Cal

RE: Need some advice on 243 bullet
I put 100 gr. Remington Core Lokts through my .243 for 3 years, mostly based on price. I decided a month ago to compare loads, getting a box of the Reminton Core Lokt 100 gr., a box of Winchester Soft Points ~100gr., A box of Federal Vital Shok 100gr. and a box of Winchester Ballistic Silvertip 95 gr. The Remingtons wouldn't group well, while the Winchester Ballistic Silvertips gave me the best grouping. I'm using those this season, and I'm excited to try them out in the field. Maybe my gun just likes the loads, and yours will probably be finicky. I'd recommend trying them all out and seeing which ones your gun likes best.

RE: Need some advice on 243 bullet
There's some GOOD advice above.
In 6mm the Nosler Partition is the best bullet of all the ones mentioned above. I agree, less than perfect shots require a tougher bullet, and in smaller cals, it's hard to beat NP's!! Experience has shown me over and over that in my 243 Win, and 240 Wby., 100 NP's are the bullet to use on big game!! Drilling Man |
RE: Need some advice on 243 bullet
I know the 95gr BT group great and she does well with it. Has anyone used them on deer and what kinda results did you get. I handload so there isn't a problem trying different bullets, but already have the BT's loaded up, and season opens in 2 weeks. Time is running short on switching bullets ... if ya know what I mean...

RE: Need some advice on 243 bullet
Wife took her first deer a 12 pointer today. The 95gr. BTs worked great, complete pass through at 200 yds. even after hitting the shoulder. I am impressed with the results
