1903 Steyr Mannlicher bolt action in 7 X 57. Bought it in 1967 on my 14th birthday for $76.00. Cut a lot of lawns to get that gun.

Sad Story...

Yesterday, my father fell out of his tree stand...

He really messed up his leg and is pretty bruised and battered...

Worst part, his first "nice" rifle he purchased, a Ruger #1 .270 was all but destroyed. The stock is broken in 5 places, not really sure about the action. The older Leupold scope is toast, almost beyond recognition.

I have never seen the old man so upset... It was like his hunting dog just died. He easily has the money to replace it and/or get it fixed, but I think it took the will out of him.

His bruises will heal, but right now he can't even bring himself to look at the mangled gun!

At least he didn't get hurt worse and maybe that is a lesson to all of us to take more care when getting down from our stands in the evening, I know I should wear a harness, but seldolm do...

My first rifle was a Remington 510 "targetmaster" .22. First center fire was a Marlin 336 ... yeah a .30-30 the Marlin was traded long ago but the Remington remains.

My very first rifle was a Cooey-Winchester .22 repeater which will shoot all the .22 rounds interchangeably . It's 33years old now and still an ironsighted tack driver . The same day I got my Cooey ( 15th birthday ) Grandad pulled out a 1943 Canadian made .303brit Lee Enfield and I use this rifle for deer and moose every year since .
