I had one at one time. I thoght and still think that they are a very nice rifle .
The only thing that I could'nt get use to was that they are only top loaded rifles.
You can only load or unload them from the top.
Other than that it shot very very well. Dang sure worth the money!!!
I sold it and bought a BDL version.
Hope it helps.

I had the 700 classic the year they brought it out in 300 Win Mag. It was a very good rifle and shot very well. I aimed it at three animals while I had it and they all went down with one shot each.. I traded it at Cabelas for another rifle when I recovered from Magnum fever.

Elkkamp, aint that the truth, no match at all
But im selling a gun and figured i get something to finish off my gun collection for a few years, I got the shotguns, 223 for varmints, 270 for deer and bigger so i figured i might as well get a 300 for my new elk gun and in case i hunt anything bigger some day. My battery will be complete, they have a ADL for 350 right now at a local store. I dont really care about top feeding as i will only be using it for elk, maybe black bear. The price is right plus i can use the extra money and get a nice scope.

The "top feed only" thing never did bother me (got a 1967 M700 ADL in, of all things, 270). Most my rifles have a bottom drop plate but I don't use it, I just run the rounds thru the chamber while grabbing them one by one, one less thing to go wrong.
