What does every one consider a pistol.
When I think of pistol The Revolver comes to mind.
I have a Smith & Wesson Model 19 in 357 Magnum with a 5 1/2 in barrel blued
When some one says pistol thats what comes to mind .
I use it for Deer but im thinking of moving up to 41 Magnum.
Well what does every one else use ????

A pistol is a semi-auto, I think of a 1911.
I use an SVI with a .40 AET barrel for competition and an STI BLS9 for carry, but I also have a Ruger Mk II, a Les Baer in 38 Super, a couple of Glocks, a titanium/scandium S&W 44 mag and a few others that I use.
I don't like to limit myself while hunting so I don't use a pistol to hunt. I watched a 180" 12 point step out at 250 yards in Kansas just a couple of days ago as I sat there with my TC Encore muzzleloader. Needless to say, he won't get away come rifle season.

I understand the question. Maybe because of the term pistolero, people associate revolvers as pistols. But I purged that association decades ago! I think of pistols as being autos from 22 on up, and wheel guns as revolvers.
I am down to one "handgun" right now. A ruger super blackhawk with a trigger kit installed. I prefer to shoot 44 specials but I keep 300 grain magnums on hand. The local lawmakers gave us a handgun season finally. Which is ok because I usually see critters in that range.

To me, a pistol is a semi auto, a revolver is just that, a revolver, they are both handguns, as well as the single shots that house rifle chamberings, but then where do they fall, are they pistols, they are definately not revolvers, or shall we just call them single shot pistols, who knows, but when someone says "pistol" I think 1911, when someone says "revolver" I think Ruger Single Action 44.

I call them all pistols. Saying the word "revolver" makes me feel like I'm stating one of the murder weapons from the game 'Clue'.
The word pistol conjures up the image of either a S&W model 29 or a 1911.

Pistol: a handgun whose chamber is integral with the barrel.
Revolver: a handgun with a cylinder of several chambers brought successively into line with the barrel and discharged with the same hammer.
