When I hunt near my home in SE Oklahoma I use my 257 Roberts with 117 gr. Hornady Spire Points. Most mature bucks will field dress anywhere from 115-135 lbs in this neck of the woods.

When I travel north where a buck might dress out 165-200+ lbs I carry my 280 Remington stoked with 140gr Nosler Partitions. Not that the Roberts will not get the job done I just like a little flatter trajectory and increased energy.

I use a 300win. mag. on open ground mulies. I use a 6mm rem. Where shots will be under 300yds.

For me it's the Remington 700 in a .270 caliber. 130 grain silver tips makes for a clean kill every time.
