I bought a Lady Smith pistol for my wife in 380 it was a semi-auto compact stainless pistol. After buying 4 different brands of ammo for it and it jamming at least every time I shot it , it was quickly sold. I wouldn't buy a POS S&W again if my life depended on it.

oldelkhunter,

Over the years i've had just about every brand of gun jam, or fail in some way. "If" i had your attitude my closet would he full of "spears" instead of "guns"!! :>)

DM, add Lady Smith to a list that includes 629 .44 mag whose side plates shot loose and was sent repeatedly back to the factory. My 686 was pretty ok but I never shot it much either. I figure 2 out of 3 is not worth dealing with the mfr anymore especially when buddies with lower priced Rugers have no problem

Not to get into a pissing match, but i owned and sold a lot of both S&W's and Rugers.

I sold a new Ruger 357 mag one time, and the guy brought it back because it wouldn't even chamber 38spl's, they would not go into the cylinder. I looked it over and Ruger only chambered the cylinder 1/2 way down. So much for test fireing EVERY firearm before it leaves the factory!!! I easily had more Rugers that had problems, than the S&W's i sold, but i still own both today.

I'm not saying you didn't have S&W problems, but some place there's a guy with just as many or more problems than you had, only with a Ruger or some other brand.

For my self, i've had excelent service out of S&W, better than any other brand i've owned. I've shot thousands and thousands of rounds out of my M29's and they just keep on going and going!! This includes competition and hunting.

Anyway, good luck with what ever you buy,

Dm no offense intended. Just my experience with S&W's. I notice that S&W doesn't have that line anymore.

Now I have heard of a Lady Smith being a pistol and revolver. What is the correct model number.

When your lady gets out of sorts, you take her to a Lady Smith, see?

LadySmith was a marketing move, not a model. S&W sold several "feminized" handguns under the LadySmith name for a few years (late 80's, early 90's, maybe?). They were characterized (as I recall) by having features like satin finishes and rosewood grips, that sort of thing.

A nice idea, but I don't think it really took well.

It was early 90's I believe. In addition to the appearance differences they also slimmed down the grip and made some of them a little lighter. Some of them were exactly the same as the regular version except for the name.
Over the years I used many smiths for training and duty side arms. They did the job they were designed to do. I also bought one for my second wife. A Centenial hammerless 5 shot 357. 2 3/8 inch barrel. NICE pistol. Gave it to my dad after she died.
I also have a little .380 hooker pistol by S&W that I carry during the summer. It's utilitarian.
