I also agree with Big Ed and Hornetguy Treat your 22's ( Loveingly )and you will not wear the barrel out ever. I was once told that you can wear out the Barrel on some Hi Power rifles within 2000 rounds especially the hotter ( faster ) ones. I was also told about the alum rod thing years ago but I cant seem to remember the reason you should not use the alum rod, is it " chamber abuse and corrosion ??

I have my grandfathers savage pump 22. It was the first gun he ever bought. It has gone thru 4 generation now including my 3 kids. I have a 5 yr old grandaughter that will start shooting it in another year or two.I would guess it had over a 100,000 rounds thru it and it still shoots great.
My son and i have 10/33 that have 20,000 rounds thru them also.

I've got a Marlin Model 99 M-1 (looks like a baby m-1 carbine, it's so cool <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> ). It was my old man's, he got it when he was about 11, claims to have put over 30,000 through it himself, over 5,000 ofwhich were birdshot. I've had it for about 4 yrs now, and have put 13,878 rounds through it (no kidding, I'm counting!!) The rifling is showing some wear compared to my new Marlin Model 60, but it still has great lands and grooves, and it still holds great groups. Only problem I have with it, my old man lost the rear sight when he took it off to scope it, I use it for coon hunting, so a scope won't do any good, and the front sight juat recently fell off, the allen screw came loose, and I haven't put it back on, so it's kinda difficult to hit a rabbit with out past 80 yrds, but I love it just the same.

GOTTA LOVE THAT MARLIN MAGIC!!!!
