The 45/70 TC pistol or Marlin rifle ect is a great deer rnd to 200 or so yds ,the others are a bit heavey IMO unless you line up 4 or 5 side to side.

I just hate it when I kill a deer too dead. Any of the cartridges listed would do fine on deer or anything else for that matter given the right load and bullet was used. With a 45-70 you get less meat damage than with a 243 Win but much more whallop.

You're right frizzellr,
Blood shot meat is more a result of hyper-velocity (3,000+ fps) than it is a function of bullet diameter or weight. I've busted elk in the shoulder with a 375HH (300 gr & 2,600 fps) and the meat waste (we cut our own) was ounces not pounds --- eat right up to the hole --- might have changed the burger to roast ratio a little, but not much. Unlike the result of a 7mmRemMag with crappy bullets that "explode" on impact, we've had a couple of those and the discard was in "pounds".
With most of the cartridges listed at the header of this thread a deer is not going to provide enough resistance to really open up even a soft point very much since their jackets are fairly tough in anticipation of tough game and of course if you use solids (where legal) like I mentioned the meat damage would be even less. Of course practically everyone on this forum does perfect sniper shots behind the shoulder so there will be no meat loss at all.
I am still convinced all the cartridges mentioned would perform very well on deer under any conditions (more than I can say for a 223).

The 45/70 is an excellent deer round with winchester 305 grain they punch a nice ,neat hole and lots of wallop. You dont need buffalo bore or garrett for whitetail . But they work well also. Dont be fooled by the so called too big of rounds they are excellent on deer. Danny

All of the above would work well for deer and so does the 223 within its range with the right bullet and good shot placement. It all comes to the guy behind the gun. I have seen many deer killed with the 45-70, 348, 358,405 win. And a few with the 416 Rem Mag which I have done. As clint would say. KNOW YOUR limitations and those of your equipment. If you got one and you like to use it and its legal, The rest is up to the man.
