Default Which 243 Bullet Design is for me?

I have decided to get a BLR in 243 for deer hunting.

Deer in my area weigh less than 150 lbs., generally around 130.

The woods are really thick. What do you believe would put deer down quickest:
1) Winchester 95 gr. Ballistic Silver Tip
2) Winchester 100 gr. Nosler Partition
3) Remington 100 gr. CoreLokt

All sugestions are welcome. What do you think will work best? What has worked well for you?

Thanks, ths78

It has been my experience that the Remington CorLokt in a 243 Win just plain doesn't hold up. I refuse to use them anymore. I have had excellent results with the 100 grain Sierra GameKing and the 100 grain Nosler Partition. I can't speak to the 95 grain BT because I haven't used it yet.

The Nosler Partition is the best of those three but will also be the most expensive.

frizzellr, I would br very interested to hear more details about your experiences with corlokts. I used them, when I carried a 243, and never had a problem. In fact I rarely had one fail to exit the deer. Not disputing you, just interested.

Using the bullets you specified I would say the Nosler partition over the other two . Myself I have been shooting the 243 Win for years and all I ever use for deer is the Barnes 85 gr XBT . I have tried just about every bullet made for the 243 and found most of them didn't work for me .

The Nosler Partition is the only bullet I would use in the 243 for anything but varmits. The X bullet should work well but I have not tried them. To me the 243 is best used for coyotes and such, at which it excels.

Todd1700, my last bad experience with CorLokts out of a 243 Win was with a doe that stepped out at about 80 yards and stood broadside. The bullet entered right behind the joint of the shoulder and proceeded to disintegrate. It blew out the near side shoulder and jellied a lung but never exited the animal. After tracking her for 100 yards and field dressing her there was bullet fragments in the cavity and on butchering there were fragments in the near shoulder. Had a similar situation years before with another doe and I also shot a feral dog that the bullet failed to exit. My belief is that the 6mm CorLokts are not tough enough and act more like varmint bullets than game bullets. I had the exact same problem with 270 Win CorLokts. Now in all fairness I never had a problem with 30-06 or 308 using CorLokts. They seem to hold up pretty well. I am pretty much sold on Nosler or Sierra bullets though. I have never had a bullet failure from either and they shoot very well.

The 100 gr hornady round nose and H4350 powder has worked best for me

my wife and myslef shoot the 243. she uses the Winchester PSP 100 grain ; and I use the Winchester 80 and some time the 100 gr. PSP.

they work great for us.she has taken about 18 to 20 deer, and only had one we didn't get( a low inf front leg hit??????????) and I can't count the hogs that
she has killed.

I have taken in excess to 100 deer and more than that in hogs.only lost one deer in my history of shooting the 243.( don't know where the hit was????)

the Winchester 100 and 80 gr. PSP bullets have served use well.[8D]

My vote also goes for the Noslers Partitions!!

In the several hundred NP's i've shot, in fact probably over a thousand, i've NEVER had the lead come out of the back!!! I'ne never seen it happened for anyone else either! I like them better than any other game bullet i've ever used.

I've taken a lot of deer with .243 Win. with NP's, and they work particulary well in this diameter.
