Default Ruger #1 question

Hi,I'm considering possible rifles for my son(southpaw)and was curious how a Ruger #1 ejects the spent casing;I would think it throws it to the right but I've never handled one to know.If it throws to the right ;could the rifle be adjusted to throw left?Or,would I be better off to just buy a left handed bolt rifle instead.Thoughts and suggestions appreciated.Thanks.

I just purchased a used Ruger #1. I’m pretty sure the spent casing is ejected straight back from what I can remember when I tried ejecting a empty casing without shooting it. I haven’t shot this rifle yet. Still looking for a scope.

When you drop the lever the cartridge comes straight out. It just sits in their. it does not throw them out. My best friend used my #1 for elk hunting. He is left handed, and it worked great for him.

My Ruger #1 ejects the shell straight back and completely out of the chamber. Sort of like a shotgun ejector. On my 7 mag they do not just sit there.

I believe there is an adjustment on the ejector spring which will change the force of extraction

When i drop the lever, the spent case ejects out and sits right in front of the safety.

I like them! I don't think they are worth the $$$, though.

The Encore's are better IMO.

I have both the Ruger #1 and the Encore and personally I prefer the Ruger #1. The Encore has the capability of having more then 1 barrel which makes it more versatile but the Ruger has better qualities.

Trailer...I'm the opposite. I think the older #1's are better than the new ones.

I love the feel of my Encore. To each his own!
