i think that the 308 is a very good rifle caliber for deer sized game. It is inherently accurate, light recoiling, fairly fast for shortaction i get 3000 fps out of my 150 gr handloads. Just a good gun.

The .308, can and has been used on whatever you would use a 30-06, or .300 win mag on. Look at real world ballistics. It really is an excellent little popper, with plenty of power to spare.

i have used the .308 win for 35 years now and have no complaints! I've taken whitetail, mulies, antelope and moose with it and never been disapponted. Great shooting cartridge with light recoil!!

Try it!! You'll like it!:)

pharaoh2,

Nothing to say about your post, but love your signature. Wish I had come up with it, and I don't normally have much to say about such, but gotta love it.

Easy to shoot and reload for. 150-165 grains in my M70 seem to work best. Plenty of power for whitetails and accuracy for varmits. Whats not to like.

Some will recommend a 30-06 over the .308. In my opinion I would take the .308 over the 06. If more power was need in a 30 caliber I would choose a .300 Win.

Someone once explained the differance between the 30-06 and .308 at this: .308 is getting ran over by a cement truck the 30-06 is getting ran over by a full cement truck....Same out come....just more splat.

Sweet caliber. If I were permitted only one rifle it would be a pre-64 model 70 in either .308 or 30.06. gg.

The .308 is suitable for anything that the 30-06 or any 300 mags are suited to. The only difference is that some of the 300 mags will let you attempt to do it farther than most of us should be shooting at game animals any way.

I like it! Lots of fun! Accurate little smallbore! Great for practicing/paper punching/plinking! Works well as a "warm up" for mid and large bores when at the range.

A bit short on case capacity if you are wanting to shoot the heavier .308 bullets, especially if they are of the Barnes X variety.

That is about it.
