I'd go with Sako or Weatherby.

For $300(~$450CDN)?

Where? Off the back of some guy's truck in a dark alley.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

the savage is your best bet, 110 or 111, but i'de have to say instead of a .270 or .30-06 go for a .280 rem. it will out perform the .270 win. and .30-06 in down range performance and has more bullet weight and styles for handloading than the .270 does, or at least the last time i checked as i have all three of these calibers in my cabinet at home. jack o'connor himself later in life actually preferred it over the .270 win.. as for the savage rifle, at that price you also have the option of a synthetic stock which is very weather and cold resistant and won't warp when it's wet like wood does.

just my .02 but Savage in .30-06 Springfield, This fits your description to a &quot;T&quot; . The .30-06 has taken every kind of big game in North America.

As far as the caliber the 30-06 is good for just about everything but not really great for anything, but I'm not dogging it because I hunted with one for years and I loved it. You take a wide variety of game with it. And far as the make I would go with a remington 700 or a browning a bolt, but if that is ouside your budget. I'd go with the savage. Weatherbys are over priced and over rated.
