30-06 model
i plan to buy a bolt action 30-06.
what make should i get for deer and bear hunting. I thought about remington. Would remington be better than winchester? Edited by - Christine B on 02/21/2002 20:50:58 |
RE: 30-06 model
Its a matter of preference. Both manufacturers sell quality firearms. The 30.06 is a good all around caliber and offers many styles of bullets in different weights. Personaly I own two 30.06's both of them are Parker Hale model 1200's.<img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>

Welcome to the board Militarysolider87!
BBHPete is right, it is really a matter of personal preference. I have a Remington 7400 30.06, and love mine. :) Edited by - Christine B on 02/21/2002 20:58:20 |
RE: 30-06 model
I have a Winchester M670 and a Ruger M77 Stainless. Both are chambered in 30-06. The Ruger i just purchased from wal-mart about a year ago, paid 400.00 for it,I shoot Georgia-arms 150gr Ballistic tips out of it and i'm getting some very good results from it.Both my guns has the 3 position safety which Winchester claims is the best safety on the market. Both are real good shooters but i like the feel of the ruger better than the Winchester.(the stock is slimmer)A friend of mine has had the remington 700 for some years now and has had problems with jamming and miss fires.i am sure it is a problem with his particular gun and i know others with the same model and has had no problems. My Winchester M670 was only made from 1966to 1971 so i know it is at least 30years old and i have had no problems at all out of it. But whatever you get it has to fit and feel good to you. My next gun will be a Savage in 7mm08. Good shooting

RE: 30-06 model
I have had my 30-06 Remington Model 700 ADL for over 20 years. Very reliable and accurate. Winchester make a excellent guns also. Check them out and see what features you like and don't like. Once you find one that you like and feel comfortable handling,
buy that one. |
RE: 30-06 model
It's a matter of preference. But, although you as an American citizen have a perfect right to purchase something other than a controlled-round feed M70 Winchester, it is no great tribute to your intelligence if you do!!

RE: 30-06 model
It isn't one of the choices you mentioned, but I'd stack my Savage in 30.06 up against any of the two you gave us to choose from.
It's my gun and I love it. Nobody else can pick "your gun" you have to pick it yourself. It's a very personal matter, what I may find indespensible, you may find annoying... Whatever your choice treat it well, learn to shoot it with deadly accuracy and it won't matter what brand it is. It will be your gun and you will love it. |
RE: 30-06 model
i'd go with a winchester model 70, but that's because of the trigger.

RE: 30-06 model
You need to go to a shop where you can testdrive most major models by shouldering them and working the actions. Make sure of the maximum your budget can stand and then make your decision after talking to MANY folks (like here) and feeling the guns for yourself. I can tell you that the Savage will not necessarilly feel as comfortable when being carried, but is very comfortable when shooting.
