Winchester 70 or Remington 700?
Which one do you prefer and why? Which one has greater accuracy out of the box? Thanks

Winchester M70! They are just great guns!

I have had the best luck with 700's and use these actions for all my custom rifles.

Flip a Coin, I have both and one is not any better than the other out of box. I have to agree on Win 70 safety though, I do like it better.

I own both and accuracy is about the same in my opinion .I used to prefer the model 70 ,but now its a toss-up .

RE: Winchester 70 or Remington 700?
My first bolt-action centerfire rifle was an M721 Remington, predecessor to the M700. The reason was, I could not afford the extra $35.00 for an M70 Winchester. I still feel the same way today.

RE: Winchester 70 or Remington 700?
Winchester: Steel bottom metal - Controled round action- Massive claw extractor - hand rubbed stock - Direct firing pin blocking safty - simple compound lever trigger - Field strippablebolt. Remington: Plastic bottom metal - Non controled action - flimsy pressed sheet metal extractor - Plastic sprayed on finish -Safty built into sheet metal trigger -trigger does tripple duty, also a bolt stop and a safty Non field strippable bolt. Requires a special tool. I like remington but they have cut so many corners that I almost always take Winchester hunting with me. Dont like taking chances with second best. (I and two friends have had trouble with new remington plunger ejectors sticking)

Big Earl, sounds like you are discribing the Remington Model 710.I've always liked the Rem 700. But from hearing all the problems with Remington lately. I think I would have to go with the Winchester M-70. Better still the Ruger M-77. Ruger Redhawk

RE: Winchester 70 or Remington 700?
I have shot the rem, the push feed win 70 and the new classic win 70. All three are good actions, I like the trigger adjustment onthe 700 best and can really smooth it up . But for the best overall action , the mdl 70 classic wins for me. Its extraction, bullet pickup, excellent smooth bolt movment and lock up, all the way thru, its just the perfect setup, and even the trigger group can be tuned easily.

I'll tell you what my instructor at Gunsmithing school told me. (Former head of the Army Markmanship unit at Ft. Benning)
Rem bolts are silver sodered on and the Win. 70 is forged. Accuracy is almost the same, depending on the riflesmith working on it. |
RE: Winchester 70 or Remington 700?
Both are fine guns, but I prefer the Model 70. I like the safety better plus I prefer the controlled round feeding. Plus the trigger is much easier to work on.
