I have a Ruger M77 Mark II, in .30-06. I've pushed it out to 375 yrds before, just for fun trying to hit a dollar bills through washington's face way out there taped to a milk jug (a buddy agreed to supply the bills as long as I guaranteed to hit them!!!!). I only have a tasco 4-16x glass, so I can't see much past a quarter mile, but I've been thinking about kicking up for a leupold in higher power, maybe get one up to 25x. How far can I count on my accuracy from this gun. I'd like to begin hand loading 3000+ fps shells to attempt to put some out accurately past 600 yrds. I'd like to get better than 4-6 inch groups at this distance, but I'd love to asassinate some more dead presidents (sorry george) at this distance, is this unreasonable???

Yes 6 inches would be a good group at 500yrds unless you have one of those $5000 gun's. If I remember correctly a 30-06 at 400 yards drops like 48 inches. many varibles at that range

I think you are asking for a miracle. At that distance you would be lucky to hit the jug. To much depends on that kind of shot. Least bit of wind and your bullet will drift. Then the drop of the bullet.I think you'll just be wasting ammo.Ruger Redhawk

What are your 300 yard groups like?Your 600 yard groups will likely be at least twice as large even on a dead calm day.Any wind at all will really make them grow.
