Kyhillbilly74,

Check out this forum link on the firearms review forum. "Charles Daly Shotguns Revisited" http://forum.hunting.net/asppg/tm.asp?m=367457

Basically I ordered one, a 20 ga Field Hunter model, about a year & a half ago for myself, after a buddy bought one 12 Supreme (?) Hunter. Well at first I was leary of them because he only paid about $340 for it, but it was a nice looking shotgun, with good figured wood, nice blueing, decent wood to metal fit, but the recoil pad could have been fitted better. Anyway, after he had shot up a half dozen cases of shells, without any jams or malfunctions, I got to thinking to myself, these might not be bad little shotguns after all.

Anyway, I have shot the livid crap out my 20ga in the past year & half. I have only had two stove pipe jams, probably due to me not cleaning it but ever 1,000 rounds or so. Man that thing ejects the shell liek an AK-47!! It throws empty hulls 30 feet . Talk about positive ejection.

I'll recommend the Stoeger. It's made better than the Daly. The Dalys need a lot of maintance to keep cycling properly. Not because it's gas operated, but because It's not the best designed gas system. The Stoeger will more than likely cost a little more. Well worth it in the long run.

I have not used any shot gun other than my old Browning auto five. I love it. They dont make them anymore, what a shame, but I feel they are the best. I have never shot the two you mentioned, Im curious to see how this goes.

If budget was the criteria, I'd be looking for a used 1100 or other proven time honored gun.

I bought a stoeger a few years back and it was one of the best purchases i made. It is a high quality rifle at the average guys price. i havent used charles daly but i can highly recommend stoeger.

i have a charles daly maxi-mag pump and a charles daly auto field hunter... these guns shoot as well as my 11-87 and my friends browning gold, they just aren't as pretty... great guns though. i would buy another in a heart beat... i have heard ad things about stoeger though... if it were me, daly would win this one every time!

kyhillbilly74 it may be a good idea to read Vapodogs post, it sounds like the people at charles daly made a strong argument against themselves.

Just got a Stoeger 2000 in advantage camo for $410 and the wood version was selling for in the $360 range. The gun is light and very well made, perfect for turkey hunting.
