When S&W first sold us out, I e-mailed American Shooter TV show, and told them they should not be advertizing S&W products! Their reply was that S&W was still a good pro 2nd. amendment company, blah-blah-blah.
Which was pure bull, because theyhad just sold us down the river to the Klintoon gang!
Just shows you that some companies are in it solely for the profit, and care nothing about the customer or the 2nd. Amendment!
As for S&W, they are now American owned once again, but they have not tried to undo what the British owners did!
As for American Shooter, their reply showed me that they in no way live up to the name of the program!

There is no company out there that is in it for anything else but money. You can't blame them either, thats what they do and are for. Only reason they care about 2nd ammendment is it makes them money. So it becomes part of thier business case. Colt and S&W took two different approaches. Both had serious reprecussions. Only difference is Colt didn't do anything to hurt us, (gunowners), and Smith did.

I still have some residual negative feelings towards them, but I would be open to at least considering buying from them now. For my needs/wants, I just don't think it'll happen anyway. I don't care for their semi-auto pistols, and I'm not terribly impressed with their revolvers. My favorite revolver cartridge is the .357 Mag, and a Ruger GP-100 does it for me.

Yes, the idea of a company , is to make money! To sell out your customers as S&W did, is playing financial Russian Roulette, and is suicidial too!
For me, any company that is in the gun/ammo/ hunting business, and does not support our 2nd. Amendment rights, is not worthy of our support either!

Briman
quote:
"I still have a negative view of them, but they aren't alone, I also hold Ruger in a somewhat tainted light as well".

I guess I'm at a loss why you hold Ruger in a tainted light as well. You no doubt have your reasons and I would appreciate you sharing them me. I was always of the belief that Ruger always stood fast in not caving the way S & W did. Below also is a recent press release that tends to support this. Hope you have a few minutes to read it. gg

Sturm, Ruger & Co., Inc. Recognized for Innovation and Leadership
Friday April 30, 4:29 pm ET

SOUTHPORT, Conn., April 30 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sturm, Ruger &
Company, Inc. (NYSE: RGR - News), the nation's largest firearms
manufacturer, received several awards presented by Shooting Industry
magazine's Academy of Excellence at the 2004 National Rifle
Association annual meeting in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. On April
16th, Sturm, Ruger received two top awards from the Academy of
Excellence and was a top-three finalist in two other categories.
The Ruger M77 Mark II Target Rifle, chambered for the exciting
new .204 Ruger cartridge, was named "Rifle of the Year" by the
Academy of Excellence. The Target Grey(TM) KM77VT MKII is one of five
newly introduced rifles from Sturm, Ruger chambered for the new .204
Ruger. As a further indication of the success of this new cartridge,
the Academy of Excellence also presented its "Ammunition of the Year"
award to Hornady Manufacturing Company for the development of
the .204 Ruger.

The Academy's prestigious "Shooting Industry Award" was presented to
Sturm, Ruger President, Stephen L. Sanetti. This award is given
to "individuals who have made valuable contributions to the shooting
industry through product design, industry representation, or
marketing expertise."

The plaque presented to Sanetti includes the following
inscription:"For his work in effectively defending against countless
ill-conceived lawsuits by individuals, municipalities, and anti-gun
organizations. Also for his efforts to support legislation protecting
the rights of companies and individuals within the firearms industry
for future generations."

In his acceptance of the "Shooting Industry Award," Sanetti
noted, "My contribution was very small compared to the efforts of
hundreds in the industry and many thousands of concerned shooters,
who recognize important principles when they see them -- that in
America, the law abiding majority are not supposed to be punished for
the criminal actions of a lawless few; and that elected legislators,
not judges, are supposed to make our laws." He continued, "This award
really goes to all of you, and I humbly accept it on behalf of the
law-abiding, responsible citizens who make up our industry and our
customer base. I am truly honored. Good luck to all of us, and keep
up the good fight."

Shooting Industry Editor Russ Thurman said, "People in the industry
realize what Steve Sanetti has done for the entire industry. His long-
term involvement in the legal issues has not been pleasant or
glamorous, but it is important. We need people like Steve and the
other nominees in this category -- all strong leaders that have
worked hard to preserve the Second Amendment and our heritage."

The Ruger New Model Single Six Hunter single action revolver,
chambered in .17 HMR, was a top-three finalist for the "Handgun of
the Year" award. Sturm, Ruger was also a top-three finalist for
the "Manufacturer of the Year" award.

Sturm, Ruger is the nation's leading manufacturer of high-quality
firearms for recreation and law enforcement and a major producer of
precision steel and titanium investment castings. Sturm, Ruger is
headquartered in Southport, Connecticut, with plants and foundries
located in Newport, New Hampshire and Prescott, Arizona

What some company's do in a rush to stay in business in their eyes will not always set well with the majority of people who use the product. I felt a loss from Smith & Wesson to go that way. Point blank today's modern business values suck. Screw as many people as possible for as much money as you can get and count your money. Its just not Smith and Wesson take alook around and see how many deals are out there not very many.

I hope we all can take that example and put it back in our business ethics.

But as far as the smith & wesson double action product they are still top of the line. We the little people can not buy the product and put them out of business eventually. But without the proper feedback to the owners of the product so they can maybe come around to our needs and values, we are the ones that lose in the end.

Goodguy, I'll see if I can find the information. But I believe Ruger did something similar to what S&W did, before S&W did their dirty deed. It was kept much quieter, and wasn't in the spotlight the way S&W was. I can't remember exactly, but I do remember reading about it. May have had something to do with gun locks or something. Anyway, when I find it, I'll post it for you.

I think what Briman MIGHT be referring to about Ruger. The Late WBR was against the sale of hi cap magazines to the general public. What his thinking was I don't know. After all there were many companies making aftermarket hi caps for Ruger products.Ruger should have gotten in on the profits coming from the hi caps sales.I don't hold a grudge against WBR. I'm sure he thought it out and went with his feelings. If I agree with it or not doesn't matter. It's done now and can't look back. There might be something else I'm not aware of.I would also like to be filled in.

RR, you rattled my memory. That was it. They were big backers of the Crime Bill that banned high cap mags..... along with assault weapons, etc.

Danny45 that was the only thing that came to mind.I was sure that was what Briman was talking about.
If the AWB does finally Sunset(which I seriously doubt it will) I'm sure Ruger will still restrict the sales to Military and law enforcement only. It was WBR's wish and I'm sure they'll abide by it.
