Does anyone know of a product that works well that they can recommend. I have been using the standard stuff that comes with those cleaning kits in the blue and yellow packages.. Seems to work okay, but today i bought some "Shooters Choice" bore cleaner on the recommendation of a gun smith. Anyone use this stuff and how much better is it than the cheap stuff? I usually clean my gun after everytime out at the range.

brake free, if the bore is filthy, and finish with a bore snake. If its not filthy, then i go with the good old fashion hoppes. Not because its any better than anything else, Im just a creature of habbit. Hoppes is what ive used all my life.

Shooter's Choice is a good cleaner for getting powder fouling out of your bore. I use it myself (mixed with Kroil). However, it is not the best choice for cleaning copper out of your barrel. Other products such as Barnes CR-10, Sweet's 7.62 or Wipeout are better at this. I use a two step cleaning process, first using SC to get the powder fouling out and then CR-10 or Wipeout for the copper fouling.

Do a search for bore cleaning and you'll find it has been discussed before on this forum. I previously posted my own cleaning methods and the products I use. Others use different products and have different methods. Contrary to what the previous poster said, I don't think Break Free and a bore snake are your best bets.

I agree with solitaryman 100%. I use shooters choice followed by CR10 or sweets 7.62 to remove copper fouling.

I haven’t had the opportunity to use CR10 but I have used Sweet’s and it works very well. It works so good that you don't want to use a brass brush when cleaning because the Sweet’s will eat away at the brush.

to be honest, i will cringe the first time i have to use a bore brush. Just doesn't seem like it should be used. Just my silly opinion. That's why i clean my guns after every time out.. hoping to avoid running a brush down the barrel. I will look for CR-10 and/or sweets. I didn't see it on the shelf today. I did see a new product by Hoppe (with a gold label). the gun smith said he heard very good reviews with that product too.

The Hoppes Elite line of cleaners is the same cleaner as M-Pro7 ( http://www.mp7.com/ ).

It is a VERY good powder/carbon cleaner. However, like Solitary Man suggested, you will still need a good copper cleaner like CR-10 or Sweets if you're shooting jacketed bullets at over 2000fps. Shop around if you want to use the Hoppes Elite/MPro7..................MidwayUSA is now carrying both, with the MPro a few pennies cheaper.

And a bronze or plastic brush is no danger to your firearms .............. just stay away from the stainless steel ones.

Semi, you really need to scrub the bore to get it fully clean. A good quality nylon or brass brush won't hurt your bore, like earlier said. Also, get yourself a good, one piece, coated rod and a bore guide. Damage to the crown is much more likely than damaging the bore.

For copper, I use a concoction that the gun shop I frequent mixes. It's potent, and you better have air circulation, but it works great. They won't tell me what it is, but it's probably a combination of Sweets, Shooter's Choice, and raw alcohol. LOL

MPro-7, been using it exclusivly for several years now. Once a barrel is conditioned cleaning is almost too easy.

Kleanbore for jacketed, Ed's Red for cast.
