Default RE: 7mm mag or 7mm08

Both are great deer cartridges. The 7 mm mag has more power. My hunting partner uses a 7mm 08 and has slaughtered the deer with it.Either would be a good choice. The 7 mag has more recoil so if you're recoil sensitive go with the 7mm 08.Ruger Redhawk

Strictly for deer the 7MM-08 would be a good choice! I shoot a 7MM mag and I like it a lot! It is quickly becoming my favorite rifle. But, if I were buying a "whitetail" gun, it would be the 7MM-08. It has good 7MM ballistics, with minimum recoil! Good luck on your hunt!

What ranges do you intend to shoot?Out to 250 yards or so there is little difference between the two. When the ranges get longer(over 300 yards) the 7mm rem mag is the better choice due to it's flatter trajectory.

The 7mm/08. You want more meat than what you can wipe off the bullet!!

Both will do the job so use whatever you are more accurate and comfortable with. If you are just as good with both then take both with you and one can back up the other.

In my part of the country a 400 yard shot is almost unheard of( except for those guys that have no depth perception and tend to exaggerate) the 7mm/08 would be my choice.
