Default 7mm

Could someone tell me the diffrence between a 7 mag. and a 7 mm short.Can you shoot a 7mm short in a 7 mag. and also how much diffrene in knock down power is there.

First off they are absolutely not interchangeable.

The difference between the two is that the 7mm Rem Mag is a long action belted case. The 7mm short mag is a short action bottle necked case.

As factory loaded there is little velocity difference between the two at all.

Here are the WSM's and their long action cousins. As you can see they are totally different case designs and will not interchange with each other.





Just to all a little more confusion for ya. There is also a short action ultra magnum by remington. It is similar to the WSM's but is not interchangeable with either of the other two above.

how much difference in recoil is there between a 30-06 and a 7mm mag . can some one also tell me how much foot pounds of energy please or a website that has that

I the guns that I have shot, I would say that the recoil of the 7mm RM is about the same as the '06. Neither one is very bad.
