7mm rem mag, 300 win mag, or 30-06?
 

hey there, i was wondering if any one could help me, which caliber do you think is better and why? for an all around caliber mainly for bigger game other than deer. thank you for any advice or opinions. such as bear, elk caribou etc.

Any of them i would assume. How often are you going to shoot? Just for hunting or range time etc.. why? cuz it will cost a hell of alot more money for the magnums when in fact all of these calibers will do the job.. I choose the 30.06 once again for the range of bullets you can get... I just bought some core-lokts for $6 a box too. There are some loads available that can almost match the ballistics of the mags as well.

IMO, they are all pretty close to one another. they will all allow you to hunt just about anything. The 30.06 just does it cheaper than that others.

To me the 300 win mag is a real good big game carthridge. Reason is because of bullet weight availability, large number of different weights in factory loaded ammo if you don't reload. I have all three calibers and use them accordingly.

Why not give some thought to the .300 WSM. I have a M. 70 synthetic stainless in .300 WSM with a 2.5 to 8 VX111 and really like this rifle for weight, balance, accuracy, recoil and I know it works great on moose with the 180gr. partition gold bullet. I have a M. 70 in 30.06 and a Ruger Express 77 M2 in .300 win mag and like them all but prefer the .300 WSM. IMHO. gg.

they are all good calibers, but if i had to choose one i would pick the 7mm mag...good luck

My choice would be the 300 Win. Mag. The reason I choose this caliber is because of ammo availability and the ability to handle a 200 gr. projectile.

Since you're focusing on the bigger game and since Caribou and elk can offer long shots I'd be leaning to the .300 Magnum.....however it's edge over the other two isn't truly a big one.

One more thing to consider....the .30-06 is available in lighter guns than the magnums and I find them easier to handle.....this isn't a big deal on a horseback hunt but caribou can be a lot of walking and stalking.

I would pick the 300 win. It has a little more punch than the other two.

I would get a 30-06 because it has the largest bullet variety on the market (55gr to 250gr)and you can buy a box of bullets in any small sporting goods shop in the country. It is also capable of killing anything on the planet.

There's just something about a 7mm Rem Mag, long flat trajectory and awesome stopping power. All calibers are nice. Comes down to your ability to place the shot and feel comfortable with the rifle. Good luck!
