Ditka ,if you want a cheap 22 mag ,look at the NEF,Firearms it a single shot break-open action, with a High-density polymer stock.22' barrel, The semi-auto going cost a lot more,
If your going to do more plinking than small game hunting, with this gun a 22 longrifle would be cheaper to shoot,
In my area 22mag are around 12$ for 100,while, 100 22longrifle go around 3$ plus there more of a selection of 22lr.

Singleshot is right,22mags are quite a bit more expensive to shoot. I had mine out today and the ammo was $6.49 per 50 round box, I use a Marlin 25MN shot 2in 100 yard groups today and it was a bit windy.

I own a Rem. 22 Mag 597. What a tack drivin machine. I bought it because it felt best in my hands. It has a 14" pull and thats the largest I've seen in the 22 caliber, from the factory. It went for $329, only because it was the Heavy Barrel model. Standard 597's were $250.

The Remington 597 is junk. If you ever tear it apart and look at the trigger mechanism you will want to throw the whole thing out the window.

If they are so good why is it that most gunsmiths won't touch them and several reputable gunshops I know refuse to sell them? I had one. The trigger was crap, the workmanship was shotty and the thing jammed all the time. Don't tell me I don't know what I am talking about.

I haven't heard anything really good about the Remington 597. If you got a good one count yourself as Lucky. If you want a good 22 Mag that's if you can find one.The HK 300 but they are bring a premium price. They are no longer imported so used is about the option. Ruger Redhawk
