Which gun would you grab?
 

We're always getting questions or polls on which gun for this and which gun for that. In honor of the remake of the horror classis Dawn of the Dead, here's a little tounge in cheek poll for ya! :D

The zombie army has arisen! Zombies are roaming the streets and making life in your town impossible. Which gun would you grab? Remember, zombies gotta be shot in the head to stop 'em!

I'd snatch up the Remington 870 and tuck the 9mm pistol in my belt. First chance I got I'd cut down the barrel to a more manageable close-range weapon size. It'd be a shame since it's a Wingmaster but what can you do. Fall of civilization and all that. ;)

I'd grab my Winchester 1300 with it's 18.5 inch barrel. Loaded up with the Aguila mini buck shot shells (7 pellets of 4 buck and 4 pellets of 1 buck) for more shots per loading and more shells that I can carry (a back pack full).

Under the circumstances I would steal my buddies 12 gauge ,12 shot rotary magazine (destructive device ) shotgun. You used to be able to buy them or a street sweeper over the counter in Ca .

Easy.
Grab my M1 and as many clips as I can carry.
Fix bayonet.
Grab the 1911 for backup.

the ruger 22/45 with about 40 clips. Carry tons of ammo and take em out fast.

Now this would be different if all the animals I have taken awakened from the dead and came after me. I'd have to call for back up. lol

Hi CalNewbie,

Haven't seen the remake of the classic, but saw the original years ago. One thing I remember was the sheer numbers of zombies, (also if they were further than arm and teeth distance, they were not a threat, zombies weren't real smart;)). And as much as I like a shotgun for close range defense, I'm afraid you'd be limited to carrying no more than 100-200 shells. And even that would not be light.

Of the current guns I own it would either be the Ruger 10/22 (a .22 to the brain is as effective as anything else) which would enable me to pack probably 1000 rounds. (If I took the 10/22 I'd probably carry a heavier centerfire pistol. Maybe a large capacity 9mm.) Or if the .22 were lacking, then my Ruger PC4GR would get the nod. It also having a ten round magazine chambered for .40 S&W would certainly do the job. Of course the other advantages being the ammo, while heavier than .22LR, is considerably lighter and less bulky than shotgun ammo. And an even bigger advantage is I'd also grab my Ruger P94 chambered for .40 S&W. The carbine and the pistol use the same magazines. A very big advantage when things get tense!

Whoever my "partner" was, probably my wife, would get an SKS with plenty of preloaded stripper clips. And whatever large capacity handgun they chose to grab. Maybe we'd even stuff a little Kel-Tec in the pocket. At 6.6 to 7.2 ounces (.32ACP or .380ACP, but both are 10 ounces loaded) they'd add very little to the carry weight.

Okay, okay, you said one! But you know how gun people are. One is never enough!;) Besides, who'd enforce the "one rule"? I have a feeling BATFE would have other business on their minds!:D

The AR would be the 1st I'd grab. If a 22lr is enough to blow up the head of a zombie then the 22/45 would be the backup pistol, otherwise its the beretta in 40 S&W.

What caliber did the Strasburg test find worked best on zombies? How about Sanow?

I'll have to watch the movie first and judge how effective bullets are on zombies first!

i would have to go for the 10/22 because you could carry more ammo... also a glock .40 caliber would be a good back up... and if all else failed, my remington 11-87 loaded with 4 shot. this is assuming something like that would ever happen, and that i didn't soil myself so heavily i couldn't move.

I would start with my savage 30-06, doing the snipper thing. when things got harry my Win 1300. I would start off with slugs until they got to close, then some 5 shot. If I ran out of shells I would grab my Turkish mauser, baynett on one end, thick stock on the other, Ill be going down with a fight!

Well, I'd stick my Kimber .45 in my belt, grab my pump 12 gauge and as much 00 buck as I could get my hands on. Of course this is for last ditch, close up work that I'd prefer not to be doing. So...............

I'd raid the local National Guard Armory and make off with a M79 grenade launcher and as many 40mm grenades as I could stuff in my back-pack.

I'd have to go with the sks with as many stripper clips as possible. The handgun would be a high cap 9mm preferably a single action, we are talking head shots here.

Since movie zombies historically don't entrench or fortify themselves, I'd go with my 870 Wingmaster with 00 Buck. A .357 Mag would be a nice backup weapon, or possibly a .40S&W auto (I would think high cap mags would come in awfully handy when you're being stalked by a dozen ghouls).

in case that was meant for me, have you ever seen what happens to the human (or inhuman) body when hit in the chest with a 40mm grenade? :D

No, I didn't direct that towards you; I was just sharing an observation. I've never seen a 40mm grenade hit a person. Seems a little impractical, and I'd worry about consistent detonation on such a soft target. Besides, a shot to chest might deflect energy away from the head. Even if you blow it off cleanly, you'll still have a skull chomping at your ankles. ;)

Hi Danny45,

I've seen what 40mm Grenades from a M203 will do. And it is pretty spectacular to say the least. I've also humped them.....and the only problem with them is that the basic load does not include many grenades.....because of their weight.

Now as long as I could make mine a M203, instead of the M79 (which was replaced shortly after I entered military service) I would concur with the choice. Because I would most decidely carry extra 5.56mm ammo as well!;)

I have an even better idea. Let's all get together on this one and form our own squad/platoon. That way we could cover 360 and get some sleep doing 50/50!:D

Treedog, yep, they used to make them. You can still find them at gun shows, if you're willing to part with about $150.00 for one. [:@]

akbound, I'd have to make some kind of carrier system for the grenades. I never did like the 203. I was much more accurate with the 79. I liked the idea of the 203 mounted under the 16, but just couldn't seem to hit anything with it. Of course, if you just get in the vacinity, it's usually good enough. ;)

Oops, mistake there. The 50 round mags run that much. You can pick up 30 rounders for about $100.00. I bit the bullet at one show and bought a 20 round mag for my 10/22 for $75.00. Expensive but sure made shooting it more fun.

I believe zombies are on the endangered/threatened species list; therefore, one is not allowed to shoot them. Best just get used to peacefully sharing your habitat with them and the spotted owls, preebles jumping mice, snail darters, and to a lesser degree the gregarious and now infamous California mountain lions.

My Bushmaster M-4 with every 30 round clip I can carry in my alice gear, a butt pack full of spare ammo on stripper clips and my trusty 1911-A1 with all the magazines I own. and just for kicks...a machete

I would use a folding stock 10/22 w/ extra ammo and a short barrel, a 12 gauge auto, a Glock 9mm, a 45 acp, and my 30-06 BAR. Not to mention some Molotov cocktails:D!

Well, probably my varmint gun a Rock River Arms CAR A4 (mainly due to faster reloads than my other guns, and I'm thinkin' fast reloads would be an advantage), and my Springfield TRP for backup. 'Course since the might be endangered, I'll try to only shoot the close ones!!!

Think i would just take a fully loaded M!A! tank.... Plenty of armor, and not lacking in Firepower... Choice of 120mm, 50 cal or 7.62...

What, you can't use a sword? Would a 22 be enough to kill them with a head shot? Whta about a shotgun with bird shot or small buck shot? I'ld use my sword, if that's allowed. ...poor dead bastards.

I was at a gunshop this weekend that had a rack of M4 carbines. If and when Zombies attack, I'm going there to grab one. Like someone else mentioned, one of those with 30 rd magazines would be excellent. Just hope the zombies don't attack before the AWB sunsets, as I'd like the dealer to have the 30 rounders on hand and a real collapsable stock would be nice also.:D

Since this sene is from dawn of the dead .there I was eating my grilled spotted owl . watching the new's about all the honest politions ending tax's THEN Shazzam !! Zombies everwhere . So just got down the old 50BMG off the wall . Sat on the porch we had us A 2000 meter zombie shoot . Oh and that head shot thing. If you have fifty . You have barrles and cans and cans and cans of amo.( just do your best). that's the one gun I would grab!!!

Can I take more than 1? if so, I'd take my para-trooper SKS with a BIG magazine (not that i have one) and a Ruger p90 with a 25 round clip (not that I have one)

That would depend on where is was. If I were in town runing up and down the streets I would take the 870 12 ga and the glock. (40cal.) If I were at my house I would walk up the hill with the 300 RUM and pick them off one by one about 450-1200 yards out. With that many of them I might really be able to shoot one at 1200 yards. Could be kinda fun!
