Both are great rounds, but for larger Black Bears and Elk I think the .308 would give you some greater umph than the .270.

Let your hunting hunting area decide for you.
I went with 308 because I hunt thick bush Canadian shield, I don't care how flat it shoots past 200yrds because the really long shots never happen.
You don't say where you are, but if long shots are common the 270 may be best because the smaller bullet flies flatter, but if your in the thick guts and ridges I recommend taking advantage of the larger bullet thrown by the 308.

Either choice is a good one. If you handload I'd opt for the 270. But ignore the 308 as being better to shoot through heavy wooded areas. Its not going to happen both bullets will fly off course if they hit limbs or brush. All bullets will deflect on brush and limbs. Maybe some have gotten lucky and killed an animal behind an object. There's way too much risk of wounding to even attempt a shot that's not clear.

Both calibers are somewhat equal in power and trajectory in standard factory loads. You could get alot more out of the 270 by buying better ammo or handloading.

I'd go with the .308 for a better bullet selection!

how far will your shots be?

i would go for in between. 280rem 139gr. up to 175gr ( 175gr. reloaded )

but i would pick the 308win just because of the heavier bullets

I have used a 308 to kill a lot of deer and black bear, several caribou, and a (1) moose.
I have used a 270 to a lot of kill deer, 3 black bear, and a couple of caribou.

The difference I saw was...none.

That being said, my primary rifle is a 308 and my son is using the 270. I just prefer the 308.

Go for the 308 better ammo options and i seen a dozen moose ranging from 750 pounds to 1300 pounds shoot with a 308, none went more the 25 yards
