RE: savage .17 HMR help
I bought my first Savage last year. In fact it's the model 93R17-FVSS.I just recently mounted the scope on it. I haven't had time to get to the range with it.From what I've read on these forums the Savage's are very accurate right out of the box.Frizzellr is the Savage expert.I'm sure he'll comment shortly.I'm somewhat impressed with this little Savage even though I haven't shot it yet.The workmanship appears to be decent. For the price I don't you'll go wrong.

I have the gun you are talking about. I bought it as a package and it has a cheap bushnell 3-9 scope on it. It'll shoot 1" groups at 100yds with that scope on it. I haven't even tried different types of ammo yet....just the Hornadys.

RE: savage .17 HMR help
I have done some research on the Savage 93R17 17HMR an decided to order one myself. Accuracy seems to good to excellent, but some don't particularly like the trigger on theirs.
Lots of info at this link. http://savageshooters.proboards22.co...?board=rimfire |
RE: savage .17 HMR help
1SHOT...You're right about the trigger. It's not the best. I find myself having to place much more emphasis on squeezing that I would on a lighter more crisp trigger.
It's not terrible, just not perfect. |
RE: savage .17 HMR help
Ruger-Redhawk, you know I converted over to Ruger.:) I have no experience with the Savage rimfires yet but if they are like the centerfires they are great shooting guns at a very resonable price.

RE: savage .17 HMR help
I have a friend who went from a 22 250 to his savage .17 HMR and likes the accuracy...I'm partial to ruger in these regards but hey...just my opion. By the way..I shoot an old savage shotgun.;)

ORIGINAL: frizzellr Ruger-Redhawk, you know I converted over to Ruger.:) Frizzellr Glad you came over to the Ruger side of town.LOL. I knew you had a couple Rugers but you always praised the Savage's.I figured you'd know more about Savage's then most. Ruger Redhawk |
RE: savage .17 HMR help
The savages ive handled, not shot, have felt realy nice. Generaly speaking the 17 hmr is an accurate round, all it needs is a descent shooter squeezing off the rounds. I have a marlin 17 and with a cheap pellet gun scope i get tiny groups out to 50 yards with it (farthest ive shot).
