we all have them, we all love them
I don't know of one hunter I know that doesn't have at least one .22 lr in his entourage. Which is your favorite .22, or which is the best in your opinion.
Mine has to be marlin semiautos. A model 66 to be exact. I've had one since x-mas, but I've played with my dad's 66 for years. They're as accurate as I could ask them to be, durable, and cheap. Only draw back that I have seen with them is that my dad's jams a bit, but that's likely to be because he only cleans it once a year, and shoots about 1000 rounds just during coon season. GOTTA LOVE THAT MARLIN MAGIC!!!! |
RE: we all have them, we all love them
I AGREE, YOU GOTTA LOVE THOSE .22'S. MY PREFERENCE IS A 10/22 IN STAINLESS WITH A SIMMONS SCOPE FIVE THIRTY ROUND MAGAZINES. I USE IT TO PRUNE THE MESQUITES AROUND CAMP, ONE BRANCH AT A TIME. HOURS OF FUN NOT TO MENTION GOOD PRACTICE.

RE: we all have them, we all love them
i knew when i read the thread title that this was about the .22 and sure enough here it is.
right now i have the desire to take out the tiny marlin i learned to shoot on and my buckmark. go up to the range and plink. we havent shot that little marlin single shot in years. we have 6 others (i didnt relize that many until now). maybe i will take them all up to the the range some day. shoo the little marlin, the semiauto marlin (its jams i will get the model and ask you some questions), norinco bolt action, 10/22, buckmark, highstandard semiauto pistol, and the old highstandard revolver. that doesnt include the S&W model 1 thats in horrible shape that we go when an aunt passed need to plink more. |

RE: we all have them, we all love them
Greets,
Ahhh the lovely .22rimfire! I have personnally owned a ruger 10/22 and my current which is an old Wards model Bolt .22. I think its made by mossburg. I love mine, but I wouldnt begin to call it the "best". I intend to scope it eventually, but for now its open sight. Just my uneducated opinion! Terry |

RE: we all have them, we all love them
Now you guys got me curious. I need to count how many .22's we have around here...My favorite is a Rem 552 Speedmaster my Uncle gave to me when I was 13. It would be a Marlin 39A my Great Uncle left when he passed away. But my Son decided it was his. He does let me shoot it sometimes! In the last couple of years I have really enjoyed shooting my Ruger handguns. We go through a lot of .22 shells here, as I have a pretty nice practice range set up in the back yard.

RE: we all have them, we all love them
I like my Browning semi with matching scope. The only thing I don't like about it is its bottom ejection.
|
RE: we all have them, we all love them
My favorite rifle is my Browning BL-22 lever action. My favorite .22 pistol is my old Colt single action revolver.
You can't beat a .22 for all around fun shooting and great practice. |
RE: we all have them, we all love them
I also have the Browning BL22 but my favorite was handed down to me when my grandfather passed away. It is a Winchester model 62A in near mint shape. I love this gun.
|
RE: we all have them, we all love them
I love my ruger 10/22 international with a 3x9 simmons or a red dot. Great fun gun.
Then there is the S+W 422 pistol with 6" barrel that I never get to shoot anymore because my wife is always pulling its trigger. And last is the rifle I learned on as a kid. Come to think of it, I can't remamber the make and model for sure. How embarrassing! Anyway, I think it's a springfield bolt action, 5 shot clip, with iron sights. I'm always amazed at how fast I can shoot, reload and shoot again. I developed quite a feel for that little baby. Keep 'em all in the Bull. |
RE: we all have them, we all love them
I like my gold trigger 39A, just like Wyoharris. It shoots hole through hole...
|
RE: we all have them, we all love them
Mines a Savage 23aa, its smooth and accurate, but a bit heavy. Room mates got an old pump, don't know the make bit its super light and super fast.
|
RE: we all have them, we all love them
I got a Marlin 60 at a gunshow for 30 bucks a couple years ago, looks like somebody took a hatchet and chopped the comb off. Its a tack driver and my favorite squirrel gun, I just never got around to fiberglassing the stock, but still I like it better than my 10-22
|
RE: we all have them, we all love them
I still have three 10-22's left after getting read of five other 22's that I had .
|
RE: we all have them, we all love them
I am down to only one 22LR. It is my Ruger Single Six convertable. I rarely ever have the 22LR cylinder in though.
|
RE: we all have them, we all love them
Well, Let's see.
I like my Remington 597 because of its accuracy. I like my dad's, which is now mine, Savage model 120 because it shoot shorts, longs, and long rifles. But, my favorite would have to be the one I learned to shoot gar out of the creek with. The old winchester pump action that was made in 1905 or so. Don't know the exact model. This was the gun my Grandad's brother gave my grandparents for their wedding gift. It has a tubular magazine and shoots shorts, longs, and long rifles dead accurate to this day. Almost a century old. GREAT GUN! BrandonT |
RE: we all have them, we all love them
I've had a slew of different .22's so I'll keep to what I got now. Ruger 10/22, CZ-452 "Varmint", Taurus .22 revolver, North American Arms Mini-revolver and I guess I should include my .22 conversion kit for my AR-15. As far as best the CZ shoots up there with a 40X Remington that I got stupid and sold 10 years ago.
|
RE: we all have them, we all love them
Love my CZ452 SS/Synthetic
|
RE: we all have them, we all love them
I've got a Ruger 10/22. That was the first "real" gun that I bought with my own money. I use it mostly for plinking, but have taken it out squirrel hunting.
|
RE: we all have them, we all love them
10/22.
With factory sights, can't do wrong. |
RE: we all have them, we all love them
My .22 is a Browning Buckmark semi-auto pistol. Fairly inexpensive but shoots well and seems to be very durable.
|
RE: we all have them, we all love them
I never actually owned any 22's until last year!! Always borrowed. Now I own a Marlin 60 tube-fed semi-auto. Couldn't be happier. I threw a Bushnell scope on it and like Herman_and_bill stated, it drives tacks and puts squirrels on my grill.

RE: we all have them, we all love them
I like my 10/22, but my wife loves it. It's basically the first gun she's shot, and now she wants to shoot it all the time.:)
|
RE: we all have them, we all love them
I like older remington bolt action 22's- 541's and 581's which are incredibly accurate. For handguns, I like the Ruger MKII target models. I've shot 10/22's before but never owned one- they are an extremely fun way to burn through a few bricks of ammo. Had a Rem 597- piece of crap jammed every few rounds unless I cleaned it constatly while shooting it- so it really didn't have a fun factor for me.

RE: we all have them, we all love them
My favorite was a Winchester pump gallery gun. Hex. barrel, hammer, only shot shorts, made around 100 years ago--xtremely accurate. Worst 22 is a Marlin 25mn,22 Mag. It won't shoot 2 inches at 50 yd., and I have but a lot of money into this rifle.

RE: we all have them, we all love them
My favorite was a Marlin bolt action that I bought from my Uncle in the early 60's. It originally belonged to my father who bought it in 1940. I spend many hours out in the pastures and in the woods learning to shoot and hunt. The thought of the Marlin brings back many good memories of the past. I wish I still had that old rifle.
