RE: is 223 safe for deer
Me, knowledgeable and wise. Nah. Just a guy on here that likes to shoot a whole bunch, and is pretty lucky at that and reloading. And hopes he can help a guy or two with quesitons. I am more of a bow hunter and can't say I have ever used a 22 to kill a deer. Bow hunters kinds thinks this is a funny conversation. I mean, a deer is not that tough to take down. To alot of us bow hunters, a gun is just something to use after we get discusted at deer for not getting within 20 yards of us. After 3 months of trying, getting up early. Spotting monsters and none walking past your stand, and you say, (wait until a few days, and I will get even). I see it as kinda funny, everybody comments on moot points about guns killing power. Also kinda found it funny that a new guy to the forum, would make it funny. You Yanks crack me up.

Bigcountry, this is the last time I will respond to your nonsense. I think we are starting to look like a couple of hens bitch-slapping each other. I will say though that I killed my first buck with a recurve bow in 1966 and many more since. I suspect that you were'nt even in diapers yet. I fail to see what that has to do with the topic though. Also, I have done much of my hunting in New Yorks' Adirondack Park; 6,000,000 (yes million) acres. That's bigger than your state and New Jersey combined. Makes me wonder how you got the handle "bigcountry"? You should learn from JagMagMan, a real southerner that knows what he is talking about. Afterall, did'nt Maryland sit-out the Civil War? New York and Texas sure did'nt[:)

RE: is 223 safe for deer
Boy, you yanks are so funny. Not funny wierd, funny in a court jester sort of way. got the nickname cause I am from TN/Ky and yanks here in MD all the way up to NY never really heard a person talk like me and be a Engineer. So the name stuck. Still have residenses there in Turkey Creek Ky. I move on a regular basis cause I go where the money is. MD is a place where I bought a house and where my company is located at this current time and is probably going to change very soon, for the worse. I am mostly on the road traveling.
I an not sure why your so upset at me. Man settle down, this is just the internet. If you are the super knowlegeable person you say you are. Stick around for awhile help a few people out. I try when I can, but also like conversing with like minded people like myself. |
RE: is 223 safe for deer
I've got more respect for you now that I know your not from MD.. And really I'm not that upset, I just enjoy a heated debate now and then. I do get torqued when I hear people touting the effectiveness of shooting deer with a .22 of anykind though. Around here only the outlaws shoot deer with a .22, usually at night. But anyway, I guess we can agree to disagree on this subject?
Enjoyed talking with you Bigcountry. |
RE: is 223 safe for deer
Good to make a friend. Yea, the McCoy family in Ky about kicked me out of the family when hearing I bought a place in MD. I didn't like it much either, but it beats working in the Coal mines in Eastern Ky. And nobody told me that deer were like popcorn here. There everywhere. They got 90% success rate. Thats un heard of. And some real nice deer. It is easy bow hunting in this state. Deer really don't have much places to run but between hedgerows from feild to field. So you just set you climber up and wait for them to roll thru the little plot of land. or drive your car at 60 MPH thru the hollers at night. Might cost you a bit more and meat damage is bad. There's more to it than that. But in Ky, and TN, if the deer feel pressure, he just goes over the next mountain. Doesn't like it there, keep going until you couldn't get them out with dynomite. Makes hunting a lot more tougher.

RE: is 223 safe for deer
A fellow in the hunting club I belong to hunts in MD.. He says the number of deer is incredible, but no public land to speak of. He hunts on his daughters property. He says Maryland is'nt too gun friendly either. How do the racks run in size? Usually high densities mean small racks, but not always. Deer hunting in Adak. is tough due to the remote and mountainous terrain and tough winters. We still have three feet of snow on the ground and most years it stays till April.Last year we had a major snow storm in May. Makes it hard for the deer to winter through. Buck to doe ratios are good, you just don't see many. Adak is a good place to kill a wall-hanger if it does'nt get to you, going days without seeing deer. This past season was a record breaker for black bear. Seems like we have more bear and coyotes than deer most years.
Take care. By the way, I agree, we yanks are a funny bunch |
