How many people carry a consealed weapon (gun)
My state Michigan has passed into law people can carry a gun. I have been thinking about a (CWP) for a coulpe of years now. I'm thinking about getting a Glock. How does anyone feel about (CWP) and about the Glock being a good weapon?
Thoughts? ubub |
RE: How many people carry a consealed weapon (gun)
States that have enacted CCW permits have seen a marked decrease in violent crimes on persons. States that refuse to enact such laws, and have very strict gun control legislation, continue to lead the country in violent crimes. Guess bad guys don't like having to guess whether or not a person may or may not have a gun on them.
I've had a permit for 8 years now (since Oklahoma first enacted it). Luckily, I've never needed to use it, but it is comforting to know it's there sometimes. Shootings are becoming a common place thing where I live now and I am comfortable knowing that I, at the very least, am on equal ground as the assailant except for the element of surprise. I carry a Kimber Pro Elite .45 acp. I keep it loaded with 230 grain Winchester JHP's. Funny looking bullet. Has little notches around the hollow point and it's all black. :D Anyway, the gun is 100% reliable or I wouldn't carry it. I carry it Condition One meaning safety on, round in chamber, hammer back. (the only way to carry a 1911 or any of it's clones). The Glocks are reliable firearms and should serve you well. They are a little wide across the slide and this can make them slightly more difficult to conceal, but it can be done. I like using a paddle holster. I often wind up going some place that guns aren't allowed and it's much easier to leave it in the car that way. Good luck. |
RE: How many people carry a consealed weapon (gun)
I have been carring most of my adult life.( and a lot of my youth;))The glocks are good .I personally like the old 1911 and clones.Cocked and locked like the man said.Lately I have been carrying myModel 60 S&W in .357 Magnum.Easily concealable,I do not worry about the "Knockdown power" as every body thinks if it ain't a .45 it ain't got enough juice. This"Little 2 1/8" bbl. 5 shot will Keep the snakes off of your Arse.In a "Situation" I am not plannig on a long firefight( Close quarters and 1 shot)I do have 1 speed loader but doubt I would ever need it.Now let the flaming of the Swapdog begin.:D

RE: How many people carry a consealed weapon (gun)
Have carried legally since Texas enacted started issuing CHLs, and you don't need to know before that. I carry a Para-Ordnance P12, carry load is Pro-Load's 230 gr +P JHP. When I'm not carrying a gun, it is a Colt Mustang Pocketlite, with Cor-Bon's JHP. Mrs. Charley carries either a Makarov in 9x18, with Hornady's JHP, or a Kel-Tec in .32ACP, with Winchester Silvertips.
Some people are not willing to make the compromises in dress and behavior that carrying a weapon entails. It is an individual choice, not for everybody. Me? I carry every single day, whenever I leave the house. Don't care for Glocks. Great weapons, just not my choice. They feel funny and look funny to me. |
RE: How many people carry a consealed weapon (gun)
several years in texas. I carry a Kel-Tec in 9mm.
|
RE: How many people carry a consealed weapon (gun)
I carry in Virginia. Glock is a good weapon. I carry one every day and never had the first problem.
|
RE: How many people carry a consealed weapon (gun)
Walther P99 is what I carry most of the time.
|
RE: How many people carry a consealed weapon (gun)
I am in such a habit of carrying.....it's in my pocket now, as it always is. I don't even give it a second thought.....concerning having it on me. I wear it like a pair of pants, undershorts, belt, etc. In otherwords......it is always there! There is little point in carrying.....if you are not willing to do it consistently!

RE: How many people carry a consealed weapon (gun)
I've been carrying since Florida enacted the CCW Permits back in 1987. Almost everywhere I go I have one on or within arms reach.I carry a couple of different guns, fast trip to the corner store a Beretta M-21 is in my pocket. I carry either a S&W M-649 or a Glock Model 27 which is my favorite carry gun.I think a Glock is hard to beat.
To me having a CCW is like having a cheap insurance policy. Cause you never know. When you least expect it you might have to confront a bad guy.I'm more then willing to oblige them. Ruger Redhawk |
RE: How many people carry a consealed weapon (gun)
I carry sometimes....sometimes I don't.
A snub nosed Model 19 Smith in 357.....combat modified. Clint |
RE: How many people carry a consealed weapon (gun)
I had a permit for years but never carried . Just never felt the need for it with what I did or where I went . Most of my friends do and I can relate to some of the inconvenieces it has caused them at goverment bldgs and airports . I see them more and more leaving thier piece at home .

RE: How many people carry a consealed weapon (gun)
would not think of carrying concealed, it is illegal and the Kansas governor says she can protect me.:D
I would like to know where she was the 4 times I needed a firearm. If I was going to carry it would be a stainless 44special, 2" barrel. |
RE: How many people carry a consealed weapon (gun)
Me & the old ball & chain (soon to be ex) both got our CCWs here about 2.5 years ago in FLA.
On any given day, I'll carry either a snubby .38Sp, a .357Mag, or a little .32ACP Beretta. Again, I don't think total knockdown is a big consideration for 99.999999% of CCW applications.............even 8 rds of .32ACP will get the message across to Mr. Crackhead. But when considering getting a CCW, think about this........... It's not just about personal protection anymore. In this post-911 world, you just "might" be called upon to stop a threat. Afterall, terrorism depends on crowds to create terror.............what better place for the next attack but a mall full of people to terrorize?? I consider CCW to be not only a priviledge, but a duty to be grasped and used if required. CCW - doon't leave home without it!! :D |
RE: How many people carry a consealed weapon (gun)
I carry one for eight hours every day at work. When I leave work I keep it in my desk drawer. I prefer to use my 30-06 at home for intruders.
The Glocks are very reliable. Have have carried many different brands and calibers over the past 14 years. I currently carry a Glock 22, which is a .40. Prior to that I had a Glock 21, which is a full size .45. Someone earlier said that the glock is too wide. The Glock actuall comes in several sizes including different widths. Our department also carries Sig Sauer. These are very nice reliable, accurate guns. Not as much magazine capacity as GLock , but one to look at. We had bad luck with the Smith and Wesson handguns. I prefer the .40 now in plain clothes, but I loved the .45 Glock in a holster. The 9mm doesn't have enough snot for me. We had those in the early 90's and you would have to shoot a deer several times point blank in the head to kill them . I never had that problem with the .40 or .45 Just my 2 cents cybersniper |
RE: How many people carry a consealed weapon (gun)
Ruger 357/38 S.S. 3" barrel, double action, nice and light weight. 870 loaded with rifle slugs behind my seat of the truck, and a knife here and there.

RE: How many people carry a consealed weapon (gun)
My wife and I have been carrying legally since Ky voted the CCWP in a few years back. I pack a Kimber Ultra CDP "cocked and locked" loaded with Speer Lawman 200gr hp's and she packs a S&W model 60. For the home defense, I keep a SXS 12ga with barrels at 18 1/2 inches beside the bed along with the Kimber and a S&W 686 Plus in the nightsstand. The GLocks are great pistols, but just too ugly for me.

RE: How many people carry a consealed weapon (gun)
Hi again Ubub,
My first post was done moments before I helped put my father to bed last night....and then went myself. So it was considerably condensed. Something that I have not seen mentioned yet......is the method of carry/presentation. All the posts have been centered about the type of "gun"....which of course is good....and usually the most interesting part of this conversation anyway. But, if you are going to carry CCW.....you should give an equal amount of thought and consideration to the method of carry.......and a "holster and or system". There are many more options available today then we have ever had before. And they run the gamut of prices usually from as low as $20. (as in FOBUS/Uncle Mikes) to hundreds of dollars (custom leather). And somewhere between those two extremes you can find something that fits both you and your life style (read that dressing habits) exceedingly well. And sometimes, depending on your profession, life style, you will need more than one carry option.....even for the same gun. So give the same detailed consideration to your holster/carry method during the selection process......as you do your firearm. And as an aside....if you frequent shops that do a brisk business with LE....you can generally get alot of good advice on what works well.....and what doesn't. (Also you can frequently get "great deals" on second hand gear that people trade in when they acquire different guns/equipment.) I've picked up some wonderful deals in Bianchi, Galco, DeSantis, etc. secondhand for about $20. or less.....by just keeping my eyes open! Glocks are considered today.....the law enforcement gun by which all others are measured against......much like the Smith & Wesson revolvers were half a century ago. They are a very reliable weapons platform! Once again.....good luck! |
RE: How many people carry a consealed weapon (gun)

RE: How many people carry a consealed weapon (gun)
Akbound, I was thinking about how i'm going to carry. Thanks again for responding.
The last couple of months ...Road Rage as gotten to me. I had a couple guys ride my bumper, so close I couldn't even see their bumper and I was going the speed limit. I turned lefted and they turn right on the same road. I was going to my folks house and I drove right by the house not wanting them know where I was going and not to bring them in on my folks. I drove down the road about a 1/2 mile and I could see they turned around also, I kinda got this sick feeling in my gut not knowing what they would do. Knowing that I didn't have a gun I thought if they came my way I was go to hit them with my truck because they were in a very small car. I watched as they sit at the stop sign a very long time before getting back on the road in the same direction they were going in the first place. As I thought about I thought maybe they weren't sure of where they were going...but I figured why were they so very close to my bumper for so long if they were trying to find where they were going. The other time me and my wife were sitting at a red light and the truck behind us started blowing his horn. I told my wife what is that guy blowing his horn at. She said he probably knows you or knows someone else. He kept blowing so I wondered if the light had turned green it had not still red. Finally the light turn green and I started to go and he passed me so I glanced over at him thinking maybe I knew him, I didn't but you should have seen the RAGE on his face. As he got back over in my lane again he finally turned off and as we went by he gave me the finger so I gave it right back to him. I told my wife what did he excepted me to do run the red light. I hadn't done anthing to him. I just don't want me or my family becoming a statistic! I watched this show on tv based on a true story about this man driving his truck this this restaurant front window...then getting out with a couple of guns and started shooting up the place ...I believe killing at least 10 people. There was a lady sitting with her parents the was on the board of the NRA or a member having lunch I believe she one or both had been killed by this maniac She said that she had a CWP and she carried almost all the time ...but this time. She said she could have killed the gunman long berfore he killed so many people if she had only taken her gun with her that day. It has been a while sense I had seen this program but I think I have most of it right. I also believe it was in Texas in the mid 80's or early 90's. Thanks Ubub |

Danny how did u get your Concealed carry permit, Ive been wanting to get one sense i turned of age last year but im not sure how to look into it.

RE: How many people carry a consealed weapon (gun)
Hi again Ubub,
Particularly when either driving or riding in a motor vehicle....few holsters are easier to access than a good ankle holster, (I know......doesn't sound right....but sit in a vehicle and see), or a good cross draw. And there are a number of companies that make excellent holsters in either style. For walk around comfort......for a medium to larger guns....few holsters are more comfortable than a belt...or shoulder holster. For smaller guns a good pocket holster can be very comfortable. For most "suitable CCW handguns" a good inside the waistband offers good concealability, accessability, and reasonable comfort. You will have to find what works best for.....and is most comfortable for you! Whatever you decide....insure you NEVER do anything that could be construed as escalating the situation. I've had people "flip me off" on the road....and I just ignore them....in a polite way when I am carrying. (Which is always.:D) Once again....good luck with your decisions! |
RE: How many people carry a consealed weapon (gun)
for what it's worth I have a carry permit (carry permits are less common than "regular" permits - depends on individual counties if you can even get one) I hardly ever carry mine. Just don't normally feel the need. Most the time I carry when hunting (sometimes concealed sometimes not). i got the caryy permit simply because it was an option and i figure if i'm going to have a pistol permit, might as well be able to carry concealed) I have a Fury shoulder holster for my Llama .45 and have several other pistols.
FYI check out my post on Northeast or Political formum on new proposed regs/fees in NY |
RE: How many people carry a consealed weapon (gun)
I carry more now than I used to. HAd mine for two years. If in the "cities" I carry all the time. when in the "home area" I carry very little, but she's always in the car. Looking at the airweight S&W in 357/38 for a new lightweight carry. Using the Springfield XD40 now. I agree about the comments about stopping terrorists. Could really save alot of lives, not just my own and my families!

Danny how did u get your Concealed carry permit, Ive been wanting to get one sense i turned of age last year but im not sure how to look into it. Then all you do is wait forever to get it back. (I hope I didn't miss a step, but if I did, the info in the packet from the OSBI will explain it all). When you say "turned of age", you do know that you have to be 23 (not 21) to get the permit don't you? |
RE: How many people carry a consealed weapon (gun)
Not yet but I will be getting one here shortly. Ohio just passed a conceal carry law and I want them to work out all of the flaws out of the system before I apply for a permit.

RE: How many people carry a consealed weapon (gun)
Congrats Kyhuntsman that Ohio finally passed the Conceal Carry bill.Almost every year I go up to Cincinnati.Every state I travel through honors my permit except Ohio.Hopefully they will honors other states like most do.Then when I go to Illinois ,well that's another story in itself. There's no hope of them honoring any states CCW's. I play hide the gun traveling through Illinois..LOL.Once again I'm glad Ohio finally got it together.

RE: How many people carry a consealed weapon (gun)
Thats good news to me also. I live in Ky, but travel to Franklin OH to visit my uncle quite often and it'll be nice to know that I'm finally packing legally. That is if OH will honor my permit.

I carry a Taurus in .40 Caliber. Locked but not cocked since it is a double action. Carry in Uncle Mikes belt holster with extra mag. Loaded with Corbon HP. Never had to use or draw but never know when the time is going to come when I do. As for home defense I have a Moss 500 Loaded with 3" 00buck. Should do the trick if some crackhead tries to get friendly. Second home defense is an offense Rotty dog. And yes she bites.

RE: How many people carry a consealed weapon (gun)
I recently saw something on a local newscast, only five states do not allow concealed carriage-if I recall correctly they are Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, Minnesota, and Oklahoma, now whether that means of all the states that allow any carriage, only five don't allow concealed carriage, or whether that's of all 50states. I wasn't aware that Cali or NY allowed CCW even with a permit, but that's what they said at least.
Anyway, here in Kansas, like I mentioned, we can't carry concealed weapons-it's pretty much only enforced on stiff bladed knives over 4.5" blade length and on guns. We're allowed to carry openly without a permit though. We've got legislation in action that will pass a CCW privalege, I'm all for it, I carry a firearm most of the time, except when I'm in the city, because people freak out too much, but when I'm in the city is when I feel I really need it-I carry one around the farm just for fun or for work, putting down sick cattle or exterminating coyotes, in the city I'd like to have a CCW to protect myself. As for what I'd carry, it'd either be a Micro-compact Springfield 1911 in .45acp, or a full sized Springfield 1911 in .45acp. For "less clothes" scenarios, I'd either wear my .38spcl derringer or a Kel-tec .380 auto. |

RE: How many people carry a consealed weapon (gun)
Wisconsin is a Non-Issue state...but that might change soon.
But just because a state allows CCW doesn't mean that the average Joe can get a permit. Iowa, where I live, allows citizens to carry a concealed weapon with a permit, but the law leaves the final discretionary authority up to your local county sheriff. This makes Iowa a "may issue" state. Meaning that there is no equal representation under our CCW law, and what rights you have is left up to a low-level elected peon (the sheriff) who can grant or deny permits on a whim. For instance, I live in Linn County, Iowa, where the sheriff is liberal and anti-gun. The chance of a normal run-of-the-mill citizen getting a permit here is virtually nil. You have to "show cause" to need a weapon to protect yourself (confirmed death threats, transport large sums of money, etc...), and then he can slap on any restrictions to the permit he wants (like you can only carry if you have over $500 cash, only to and from work, only on the second Tuesday of the odd numbered months, or really ANY restriction he sees fit). But if you happen to live in Iowa County, which borders Linn Cty to the southwest, the sheriff there is very gun-friendly (he owns a gun store) and runs his county on a "shall issue" basis. But the really screwy thing is that the unrestricted CCW permit the Iowa Cty. sheriff issues is valid STATEWIDE and must be honored in the jurisdictions of the sheriffs that refuse to issue permits for political reasons. But if the Iowa Cty. sheriff retires or looses an election, the new sheriff can arbitrarily deny renewal of existing permits without cause. Hopefully we'll convince our legislators to pull their heads out of their butts and change this law, which is unfair on its face, and make Iowa a "shall issue" state. Mike |
RE: How many people carry a consealed weapon (gun)
As soon as I'm 21 I will be...
Don't try to mug me on the street or you'll be sorry... My dad and mom both tote. Dad's a sheriff's deputy and a CCW instructor so I can get him to certify me... He's already taught me everything, just need his signature to get the license. Only one year to go, I'm about to turn 20. |
RE: How many people carry a consealed weapon (gun)
When you say "turned of age", you do know that you have to be 23 (not 21) to get the permit don't you? Wow!, How did they come up with that rediculious rule? Old enough to go to war,buy a handgun, drink but can't legally carry a concealed weapon. That doesn't make sense. Ruger-Redhawk, yeah, it's a weird ruling. I don't know how they came up with that. Maybe they used motor vehicle accident data and figured by 23, you're a little more mature. Oklahoma has had CCW for about 8 years now. I got mine when they first started. It's good for 4 years and I have to renew (for the 2nd time) this summer. Missouri should be getting it soon too. They just approved it I think. Funny thing about Oklahoma, they'll only reciprocate with other states if those states have similar requirements. South Dakota has virtually no requirements other than to apply at the local Sheriff's Office. So they won't allow a SD license here, and SD won't recognize mine because of it. We recip with Florida, and Texas, but not sure who else. |
RE: How many people carry a consealed weapon (gun)
I have a CWP here in Virginia and own a Taurus 85 .38 special snubby. Neat little gun. I can hide it anywhere. Sometimes on occasion, I might carry. But 90% of the time, I don't. Someone mentioned the old 1911's. Man, I would LOVE to get my hands on a reproduction WWII Springfield M1911-A1! Classic.... Absolute classic! [:-]

RE: How many people carry a consealed weapon (gun)
I have mine. However rarely carry unless I'm going to the city. I actually can't believe being in Minnesota they finally made it law. WOW! This is such a liberal state. Ruger security six .357 But purchasing the .40 cal glock that I sold again just for carry purposes.
