If it were up to me and the choice was between the two I would go with the Ruger. Nothing at all wrong with the Savage rifles and like I mentioned I have three of them, but my Ruger 77 Mk II is my favorite. Be prepared to get trigger work done on any rifle you choose with the possible exception of CZ.

Since I am on a budget, I will probably go with the Savage and buy the Ruger later.

What kind of scope does the Savage Package come with? Is it a good quality scope?

Don't forget to look at the winchester model 70.. Great rifle for low $$$. comes in most calibers too. I just purchased one after looking at alot of bargain rifles and it's put together quite well.

Simmons 3-9X40mm is what the Savagearms.com website says but I bought mine at Kmart last year just after Christmas and for some reason it had a 32mm scope. It's accurate and holds it's point of impact but I want something with a wider field of view to make it easier to get on target. I really like mine. And it's already got a "notch" on it.

I will have to replace the scope before long after I buy the gun especially if it is a 32mm that the Savage comes with.

I DID THE SAME THING I WAS WORKING AT WAL-MART CHANGING SOMELIGHT FIXTURES AND ONE OF WAL-MARTS EMPLOYEES ASK IF I WAS LOOKING FOR A NEW GUN AND I SAID I AM ALWAYS LOOKING HE THEN SHOWED ME A SAVAGE 116 FSS .300 MAG THE PRICE HAD BEEN LOWERED TO 300.00 WITH THAT 3X9X32 SCOPE ON IT . THAT SCOPE IS MADE FOR A .22 LONG RIFLE. SO I PUT A 3X9X40 NIKON PROO STAFF ON IT AND I LOVE IT

When I do replace the scope, I will only be able to spend about $250. What should I replace it with?
