I' ve decided I' m probably going with a Tikka T3 Synthetic/Stainless. The caliber is still questionable. This is to be my first centerfire rifle so I want it to be pretty versatile. I havent shot either caliber, so is there much recoil difference? What does each one feel like compared to a 3" 12 gauge slug (1 oz)? I want to use it for anything from coyotes to elk, though mostly deer. I like 270 WSM since its so flat, but the 270 Win isnt that far off. Should I jsut go with the 270 Win since its easier to get? Or is the WSM worth it? I dont care about the price of the ammo. Is the ' 06 overkill for what I want? The T3 uses the same action length no matter what cartridge, is this bad for a 270 WSM? I thought one of the advantages to the WSM line is that the action is supposed to be shorter? So does this hurt it at all?
Thanks a lot, Shawn

With elk in the picture I would go with the 7mmremmag.It has a bore size in between the 270 and 30-06 but provides more velocity and shoots flatter than either of them.

I didn' t know Tikka made any of the WSM' s. Glad to see that. My son wants the 270WSM. I want it to be a Tikka!
By the way, coyote hides are selling for $25.00-$40.00. A 30-06, 270, 270WSM will tear one up pretty badly. A 7mm mag will rip it to shreads.

I'd go with the .270 for what is listed. Either regular or short mag. If you get into reloading, you can load down for the .270 to make a nice varmit round. For deer-Elk, I'd go w/ the 7mm mag. JMHO
