Default Best Factory Rifle Ammunition for Whitetails

I have been using Remington CoreLokt ammunition for my .30-06 but I am disappointed in its performance. What is the best factory ammunition for the .30-06 if my main concerns are: (1) Accuracy & (2) Mortality. Meat loss is not a concern and most shots will be under 150 yards.

If core lokts are inadequate for your needs.....and this is surprising.....I' d suggest any of the 180 grain bonded or partician bullets.

Your just going to have to try different brands of bullets. It' s a trial and error affair. Good luck.

I agree you' ll have to try different brands and see what your rifle likes. When i shot factory loads i always had pretty good luck with Hornady and Federal bullets.

Before I started handloading, I used Federal Premium with Trophy Bonded Bear Claws for my 30-06. Lots of deer and a bear taken with this combo. The Barnes X bullet has worked best for me on deer but, last time I checked, only Weatherby and PMC loaded this bullet in factory ammo. The Weatherby ammo is expensive and the PMC loads are totally lame in the velocity department.

I posted a message while back about federal. In my 270, winchester cxp is more accurate than any federal or remington. Don't rule out the cheap stuff. It works great in some guns.

I'm not a fan or Remington CoreLokts either. I have had too many of them break up, especially in smaller calibers. I do find that most of the time they are fairly accurate though. I used Federals or Winchesters before I started handloading. Now I use Sierra GameKings almost exclusively. I believe Federal loads GameKings in some of their ammo.

I've always had great results with Federal factory ammo loaded with Nosler BT's.
