Only thing from the abbreviated serial number I can tell you is it was made between dec 2009 and 2013. I can give you a link to Savages "alphabet soup" model numbers deciphering that will tell you more. https://savagearms.com/blog/post/cra...ge-model-names

Thats from the h serial number. But this was a special run of 500 I believe. Probably in the late 80s.
Hoping to hear back from savage on it.... but from what they told me they don't have good records of their dealer exclusive deals and such from their dark ages.
Thanks for that info though.

--"Joel from Savage Arms researched the Serial # H000357 for me and informed me......I have 1 of 499 made Commerative Rifles of the 300savage cal. Made in 1989. It is a Collectors Piece in the Original Box with Documents and Knife Enclosed eat. Worth 1K $$$"
--"I had one of them awhile back, SN H000258.
It was advertised in the SHOTGUN NEWS or GUNLIST in 1988 or 1989 and I bought it from a dealer in PA by the name of Ray Nemeth. I never shot it and sold it sometime in the 1990's."
I'm researching and waiting to hear back.

Here is the best info I've found so far....

"Savage likely won't be any help as the rifle was made prior to 1995. The "H" serial number prefix is odd as Savage didn't start using that prefix until sometime in 2009, but the rifle is clearly pre-AccuTrigger with it's flat-top action. The "F" prefix was what was in use from 1989 thru mid 2001. It's not depicted in any of my catalog's from the late 80's or early 90's so I would have to assume it was a special run for a distributor or large volume dealer. If the 1989 date is correct, it was made while Savage was in bankruptcy protection, a time in which they were willing to make most anything special for a distributor/dealer if they ordered enough units as the number of standard options was very slim. My guess is it was likely a Talo Exclusive since Talo's offices are right across the street from the Savage factory and they have a long history of doing unique, limited run Savage models like this (i.e. the Savage Mako rifles). As for value, I can't see it being worth much more than any other model of that vintage as other than the chambering there's really nothing special about it. If the stock were a nice piece of walnut I could see it having a little more value, but that isn't the case here. With the knife and boxes as a group I'd say probably $500 tops - especially when you can pick up the newer Limited Edition models with very nice stocks and engraving for a grand or less off GunBroker in the same chambering."

My understanding of the H prefixing the serial number was Savage started using a letter for "dating" the rifles beginning in 1968 because of the GCA and the letter H was used on the Model 110 specifically from the years 2009 through 2013. The link I posted for you was for understanding the letters in the MODEL . I.E. "Savage 110 FXHD or some other "alphabet soup. Those letters would signify what that specific rifle sported. Such as flat back or round back, hardwood stock, trigger, things such as that. Thought maybe understanding those may help to nail down the rifle. Again, as far as the letter H heading the serial number, I don't believe they would us that in a different year group even for a special run since they were using the letters to identify year groups for GCA compliance or some thing along those lines.

They absolutely did. Whether you believe it or not. That fact is established. I'm looking to nail down the actual year and shop that sold this run.
I've spoken to multiple individuals who bought these as early as 1988. Although all used.
Speaking to one guy right now who bought his in 96. H000176
The bankruptcy years of savage were messy. And records are non existent.
Savage says they were made for a shop in either Ohio or Pennsylvania. Lol. That's about all they'll give.

Excited to *hopefully* kill something with this rifle this year. Will carry it for bear season and at least the first two days of deer season.

I'll try to shoot it this week and post some targets. Got some .300 savage loaded up and Ready to go!
